What to you mean by "iat"?

If you mean Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor, there isn't one on 1990-1996 Q45's

There is MAF AKA Mass Air Flow sensor

You can try this ans see if it help:

This is what the MAF sensor look like and we usually take the black cover circled in the white off to see id the MAF sensor is good or not:

If you have a VOM AKA Volt, OHM meter you can try the below:

But this is much easier with a laptop consult connector by Blazt or a real Consult which the dealership and specialty shops have.

This is where the MAF sensor is located in the engine bay:

Welcome to NICO.

Well I think the standard color of a ground is black. But you can find the wiring diagram in the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/

What was also weird was the fact when I opened the wire up, there was a black goop like substance in it. Anyone know what that is?

Can you how us pictures or better describe it? Because all I can think of is the black RTV (Which is rubber).

Well, there is the wire "sheath" or cover if you will. Then I opened it up to look at the wires and it was just black goo or something black and sticky in side. Before I opened it, the cover was never touched, cracked or opened. It looked like no-one ever messed with it.

I don't understand the wiring diagrams. I'm not good at electrical. I can put a car stereo system together but that's about it!! LOL! Can you give me some more detail as to which wire is what and maybe what it does or if this is hot or now and so on!!

I don't understand the problem your trying to solve.

Do you think your MAF harness, connector or sensor is actually bad?

What problems are you having.

90-95 VH45 don't have a separate IAT sensor infront of or inside MAF to provide a double check on MAF function. THe function of IAT is performed by ECU mathematically by viewing coolant temp, and AC on signal.

After all the O2 sensors provide final trim at cruise and WOT is always SUPER RICH. Whether the intake air deviates from STANDARD 70F much..................... 130F [-6% density] or 10F [+6% density].

If WOT AF ratios is 11.00: 1 at 70F then 10.34 @ 10F and 11.66@ 130F* is inconsequential in acceleration.* 130F probably means summer traffic and AC on signal and above 195F coolant stat decreasing ignition advance to protect engine so a IAT GUESS is almost as good as a sensor reading.

Only OBDII requires multiple backup sensors for every function.

Well, I don't really have a problem with the maf sensor. I was merely trying to hook something up through it and was trying to figure out the wiring.

Oh, the 5% resistor to add 30 HP?

Doesn't work.

Actually this one is or looks not to be a resistor. It is a box but I guess the same idea. I will give it a try anyway, so which wires would I hook up to? The white, black with stripe, or black? It hooks to 2 wires.

Since Q [90-95] doesn't have an IAT, kind of impossible to connect the dubious destructive box. Thank goodness.

Hello Jason,

I am having this exact same problem right now with my 1993 Q45. Must do myself to have it done right.

Thanks for making the post.

Third time's a charm...

Black = groundwhite = 0-5.12V outputBlack/white = 12 volts

This one doesn't use the 5 volt reference like some vehicles. it's 12 volts.

More info...On the MAF the socket is labeled 'B' 'D' and 'E'

B = white: 0-5.12V outputD = black: groundE = black/white: 12 volt supply

Oh, and Jason...don't bother with that resistor in a fancy box. Trust me and the others, that's all it is and it won't do anything but make your car run crappy or not at all.
