I will be purchasing the EBC gold zinc plated slotted and dimpled front rotors (211 dollars) and EBC redstuff front brake pads (77 dollars) this weekend. I found the above prices at http://www.placeforbrakes.com/...=2003

Does anyone know of anywhere with better prices? Ebay only has them for 223. ALso I might mention that the OEM nissan rotors and pads from infinitiparts are only 30 dollars cheaper after shipping costs are factored in.

I would stay away from the Redstuff, since they are track oriented, and thus perform poorly when cold (street driving). Greenstuff would be a better choice for non-track use.

But Hawk HPS would offer the best street (occasional track use) performance for the buck. $60 for fronts

Price sounds pretty good. Make sure they tell you if they are in-stock before you order.

I had the redstuff and zinc coated ebc rotors on my Lincoln LS (pre-M45 days) and thought it performed very well. I did not experience the street issues that some have reported with the redstuff.

I went with the EBC ultimax rotors this time on the M45 and they just went on Monday. Here was what I paid from auto-anything if you want a comparisson (this price was 'free' shipping - read as 'shipping cost included'):

I did the ebc rotors & redstuff from autopartswarehouse.com

The prices were competitive and shipping was free. I forget the actual price but their website is intuitive to use and get a price.

Been very pleased with the redstuff and the the bite they give with a previous I30 and this M. Until they seat well, there is a little sacrifice in low speed braking, but not on a danger/weary level. Once seated (and perhaps I get used to it, they're the shiznit)

So do you all think green stuff or HPS then? Sounds like there are mixed feelings. I am just looking for better than stock performance that will work with the EBC rotors and also low break dust. I think the low break dust is the reason I was looking at redstuff since they are ceramic...thoughts?

Don't buy same sized rotors, and pads (Even aftermarket) expecting a dramatic instantanious use difference in stopping distance. At best you will avoid dramatic fade over the stock components or you willl avoid accidental warping of the rotors.

Go to EBC's website and read the brake in procedure if you haven't already. It takes a bit more care (and patience) to get the pads to their sweet spot, but once there you won't be dissappointed. Realize, that doing a 'brake check' right after installing the ebc pads is not the desired method.

Compare that with the other manufacturers you are considering.

If after committing to the break in work and you understand that they actually get better over time, then there are other things to consider... like 'how much brake dust do the pads generate?' I can say from experience (and of course the marketting guys at EBC have stated it too) that the amount of dust is far less than the stock. How it comapres to the other aftermarket performance pads, I can't say. But, if you get tired of cleaning your wheels because of the brake dust, it is definitely an added plus.

In the end there are lots of good brake products out there, and most are superior to stock in certain metrics - so it is hard to go too far wrong. Luckily, the brake system components can be upgraded at a relatively affordable price without immediately going to a more expensive big brake kit.

of course, I'd like to hear what you decide to go with (even if it isn't ebc) and hear some anecdotal experience about how they work out for you.

Ok. So I made up my mind. Thank you all for your input. I purchased the EBC gold zinc plated slotted and drilled rotors, Hawk HPS pads, 2 cans brake part cleaner, high temp grease, and a can of seafoam for a grand total of 281!

Ill take full documented pics throughout the job next weekend or the weekend after when I get to it. Thanks again guys

A little shopping saved me a bundle. FYI, I purchased the rotors from PlaceforBrakes.com (211 shipped) and the pads from old reliable - Ebay (60 bucks shipped).
