I received my ski carrier less than a week ago. installed it last weekend. It was easy to install/remove the skis as installing the carrier. I'll get a pics tomorrow if anybody interested.

Did you get the one advertised by Nissan? How many sets of skis does it hold?

The Nissan advertised ski/snowboard rack is the Yakima Powderhound. It holds 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards. From the Nissan USA website:

Ski/Snowboard Carrier by Yakima®* Carries up to four pairs of skis or up to two snowboards* Corrosion-resistant plastic and aluminum* Locking feature for security

See Yakima's website for more detailed specs on the Powderhound:http://www.yakima.com/racks/sk....aspx

The Powderhound requires the complete roof rack for the Rogue including:

- Factory installed roof rails (SL model)- Crossbars (Genuine Nissan Accessory): Nissan # G3805-JM000

You then need the mounts and Yakima ski rack:

- Mightymounts (attaches Yakima accessories to factory crossbars): Nissan # 999R1-EP001- Yakima Powderhound: Nissan # 999R1-KL007 or Yakima # 8003071

Edit:

The Yakima version of the Powderhound comes with universal mounting hardware.

Leo2005, let us know if the universal mounts works with factory crossbars (assuming you have them).

What if you need to carry more?

The Yakima Big Powderhound holds up to 6 pairs of skiis or 4 boards. The Rogue's roof rails are approx 42" apart at the front and 39" at the rear. The Big Powderhound is 30" wide so it should fit on the crossbars between the rails.

Binding Clearance:

The rack sits pretty close to the roof. Depending on the ski & binding design, the binding may touch the roof. The solution is to use Yakima's Ski Lifts which happen to come with the Powderhound rack (assuming you bought the rack from Yakima, not sure if the Nissan version has them). It's basically an extension that goes from the mount to the rack to 'lift' or tilt one side of it for more clearance.

ok. Yakima does not provide the mounts. So I bought mighty mounts from leeparts. Not sure yet what to do to hold more than 4 pairs since I needed only 3 pairs at the time but will look at that too. http://www.leeparts.com/nissan....html

I'm wrong. Just looked at the manual it says holds up to 6 pair skis or 2 snowboards. Sorry... my bad.I also have a tent that connects to the car. I ordered from the same site like in April and used it only once. Too complicated to install. Here's couple pics:

Excellent pics Leo2005. This is such an informative post, I have split it off and added it to the Official Rogue FAQ.

The rack you have pictured is the Yakima Buttondown 6 Aero. The fitment looks good. There is plenty of binding clearance with the Nissan crossbars.

Yakima no longer lists the Buttondown model on their website.... it may have been replaced by the Powderhound. I have the same Buttondown rack collecting dust in my garage. Bought it in 2000. I haven't used it for a few years since I have just gotten back into skiing last year. Perhaps I will put it back into service this year.

Note to everyone: Buy the larger Buttondown 6 or the Big Powderhound. Forget the smaller models... you will be grateful for the extra room especially with snowboards.

As for the Powderhound model, if anyone does purchase one please post pics. I would like to see if the newer Yakima universal mounts work with the OEM Nissan crossbars.

Yakima Fatcat 6 ski rack and 52" Yakima whispbar cross bars. I cannot hear the crosbars or the ski rack when they are on. The crossbars were$$ but worth it to have them look stock and perform great. Sorry for the bad photo, will post better later
