Anyone else had this happen? I called the dealer and they said to bring it in for an hour of joyful time in the waiting room while they run diagnostics. They couldn't tell me whether it was dangerous to drive with it this way or not. The book just says "call dealer." I found similar issues with other nissans on this site but none with the Rogue. I have had no other issues except the constantly annoying low tire light. Anyone?

There is a recall for the 2008 Nissan Rogue (2009 models are not affected) regarding a defective OCS (occupant classification sensor) in the passenger seat. It may be the cause of the flashing airbag warning light you describe.

You can view the entire recall here.

You can get answers to most of the these questions in the Official Rogue FAQ

Thank you! I didn't get a letter on this from Nissan. I guess I didn't make their "list". I will take it in tomorrow. Interesting that I called the dealer and they were clueless. You know all!!

I called the dealer this AM. He told me the recall didn't apply to my car. I told him the one I read said all 2008 Rogues. He said that wasn't true but to bring it in tomorrow. I also told him it said to not let anyone sit in the passenger seat in case of a collision. He said it was not a problem. geez! I'll let you know the scoop tomorrow.

Took it in - I told him there was a recall. He said my car was not on the list and pulled up my car and "the list" to prove it. Dealer checked it and called to say the sensor needed replacing. (I guess my car proved him wrong.)

He said to pick it up and the part would be there in about 5 days. I asked f it was safe to drive. He said it was. I asked if the airbags worked. He said, "No, the sensor is not working." I told him I felt that it was not safe to drive. He said, "only if you have an accident." I asked for a loaner and he said that was not an option since it was driveable. I reminded him that I had an extended warranty and that it provided a vehicle if mine needed repair. He paused and said "I'll call you back." 20 mins later, he called to tell me they were taking the part from a new Rogue to put in mine and it would be ready in an hour. It was.

Moral of this story...yes, the extended warrany does help.Oh, and "safe" to the dealer shop and to the vehicle driver are two different things.

Wow! I can't believe someone would open themselves up to that kind of liability these days. If you were injured, he would be bankrupted by a good attorney!

Not to mention it's unethical and just plain bad business.

Glad you got your Rogue fixed.

Take care.

Exactly! I got my survey in the mail today and I put the whole thing in the comments. I bet no one else has this problem once Nissan sees what happened.

After googling this issue I am pleased to find this is not a huge problem.

But, its pretty annoying to take delivery of a brand new 2010 Rogue and its first stop must be the Service Dept. because of this flashing light.

The dealer had to keep the car for 3 days because he could not get the part quickly, but at least provided a loaner. grrr.

I've brought my 2009 Rogue in twice to fix the flashing airbag light and now it's flashing again! First time, they replaced the airbag control unit, second time they replaced the whole wiring harness but it would always work when I leave the dealership and fail after a few days. It's getting REALLY annoying and a potential hazard to drive this car now.
