Z32 parking brake hardware identical to Q45? GOOD INFO HERE!

This may have been covered previously, but using the SEARCH button, I was unable to find such information.

Anyway, I was in a bind earlier today -- I lost the parking brake hardware to my Z32 parking brake on my S13. Remembering that a few members have converted their Q45s to run Z32 brakes, I wondered if the hardware and shoes were identical. I went to the junkyard to glance at a Z32 and Q45 and they looked alike, with the same rear aluminum upright and 27mm. Obviously we already know Z32 TT and Q45 also utilize the same axle spline pattern and share the same hubs.

Getting onto the computer, I cross referrenced part numbers for both the Q45 and Z32 parking brake hardware from numerous websites. It turns out both part numbers are the same.

So if any of you are missing these pieces, simply go to a junkyard and get it from either car, the parking brake is the same internally, minus the brake cables (Z32 cables are solid, Q45 has a two piece cable).

I would assume the backing plates are also identical. Anyway, please add to this thread to correct me if I am mistaken.

Thanks for reading!

good news!

I went to the junkyard and swapped the Z32 TT knuckle onto the Q45 and vice versa.

IT IS A DIRECT BOLT ON : drum brake, rotor, aluminum upright, etc.

BOTH ARE EXACTLY the same!

rotor diameter is identical as well.

fighting the good fight! thanks for the heads up, boys!

You'd be surprised.
The junkyards I frequent have copious amounts of Q45's... through out the years also. Its kinda sad yeah but I almost adopted one because it was literally a $50 barely running car, but I really don't have the time or funds to put into one right now.

I suggested it to my GF but the response was

I wonder how anchor bolts look like on Q45's e-brake. z32 has 2 different types of anchor bolts. Thin one and thick one. Thick one that is held by small bolt that has star shaped head is what you want.

The Z32 brakes that I got were from a 91 with that huge 27mm for the drum anchor. The Q45 shares the same setup (G50 vs Z32 is what the comparison is based on). I have yet to see the torx bolt style anchor that you spoke of. In this case I'm not worried since I just opted to run the entire aluminum knuckle.

I'm talking about these. You need one on the right side(thick one) with stock s13 and s14 hub. You can use the other one, but you need z32 hub with a spacer on top to fill the gap. Or you can cut the spacer out and weld it to the anchor bolt on the left(thin one).

You see the hub on the right side? That one is meant to be used with anchor bolt on the left side(thin one). We don't have that extra spacer on s13 and s14 hubs.

Of course. It's just that most of the Q45s that I've tested so far, I haven't encountered the torx bolt on the anchor. I'll keep looking through the Qs I work on and let you know if the Q has such a deal.

Will this work for my 26mm z32 n/a brake swap? I thought the tt z32 rear brake parts wasn't usable for us 240sxers.

the differences between the NA and TT/Q45 e-brake hardware lie within the hub. The S13/S14/S15/Z32 NA have a 29 spline hub while the Z32TT/Q45 use a 30 spline hub. Otherwise they are the same.

As 94_240sx had explained above, the other difference would be the spring anchor for the drum brake assembly. As you can see from the photo above, there are two variations of the anchor (one with a torx bolt and one without). Ideally, if you plan on keeping the 4-lug hubs in the rear, the torx style anchor is what you would want since S chassis hubs lack the proper spacer for the anchor. Either switch to the NA Z32 rear 5 lug hubs or run a spacer behind the non-torx anchor. Searching the forum, you should find the proper size washer involved in doing that.

I'm going 5 lug so I need the z32 na 5 lug hub. correct? My z32 na spindle/hub don't have the rear drum/ebreak Assembly so I will have to take off the hub and switch the z32 na spindle for the q45 spindle that has the rear ebrake assembly. Thanks.

you can still use the z32 NA hubs because it does have the necessary spacer for the smaller, non-torx style anchor. if you switch to the TT or Q45 hub, you would need to have the axles/diff that share the same 30 spline axle pattern vs the 29 spline S-chassis/NA/Infiniti J30 axle pattern.
