  Problem with alarm communications in cold weather 1:19 PM 10/8/2008

So I got a new alarm to go along with my stereo after I got broken into and had a local shop do the install. It was all fine and good until about a week ago when I went to open my car but the pager on my keys refused to disarm the system. All it did was flash an "out of range"-esque symbol when a button was pressed. I ended up unlocking it with the key and manually disabling the siren (the alarm continued to go off however), and drove where I needed to go. It seems as though the system works again once it gets warm out.

I took the car to the shop a few days later but the owner said there was nothing wrong with it and gave it back. The very next morning it was doing it to me again. It seems to be related to cold weather morning/evenings. Does this sound like any sort of problem anyone is familiar with? The shop is apparently super busy and can't even look at it for days after I call them, and seeing as how the first time he looked at it he didn't see anything wrong I would like to exhaust my other options before calling him again.

What brand is the alarm? Did you buy it from the shop that installed it?

Ask the shop to pull out the brain and put it in the freezer for a few hours and then plug it back into the car and test it. I had to do this to troubleshoot an Avital alarm around 13 years ago. Alarm worked fine unless it was cold but we could not reproduce the problem. After I froze it, it did exactly what the customer said it was doing.

The reason I ask if you bought it from the shop that installed it is they can simply swap you out a new system plus remotes and you can go on your merry way. If you still have problems then it's something with the install or a bad batch of units possibly.

Well, unfortunately the shop I got it from isn't so customer friendly and I rarely have time to screw with it anyways. He apparently doesn't keep a stock of alarms, preferring instead on taking a down payment and ordering an alarm. I think I may just ask him to give me a new alarm-puter and deal with returning the faulty one on his own.

The alarm in question is a CrimeStopper CS-2016DP-FM. I'm tempted to just ask for an all out return and order a Viper from you, Broadfield (installer said he doesn't like Vipers, something about relays and too many false triggers). Glad to at least here I'm not alone with this problem.
