Does anyone have stepmania installed on their computer? I need to know how to get my dance pad to work right on it. I followed the instructions on their website but I still have the same problems..

It's like a computer version of Dance Dance Revolution except that you can download and make your own songs.

I think I can help you on this one. I own Stepmania on my laptop & the best dance pads around.

Seriously...

1) Update Windows XP (or whatever OS you are using) to the latest service pack. For XP, it's Service Pack 3. Run Windows Updates to get it.

2) Plug in the dance mat(s) via your USB port.

3) Start Stepmania.

4) When you get to the main menu screen, go to options.

5) From here, I kinda forgot, since I haven't played Stepmania nor DDR in a few years. But I think you go to "Configure" options, then select "Joystick" or something related to that.

6) You should see a screen that displays the buttons for input. Go to the panel that hasn't been used (usually the USB controller), & you have to step on the directions on your mat to get the input to be recognized. IE: To configure for "arrow up", you step on the "up" button on your mat.

7) Repeat step 6 until all buttons have been configured.

8) Now go dance crazy!!!

Anybody remember these?
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, (Select), Start
Up, Down, Left, Right; hold A & push Start

OKAY, took me a couple of hours to re-figure out everything. Haven't played Stepmania in a while...b/w working, saving for my apartment & a J30, & (trying) to finish my RPG, I haven't had much time.

Anyways, here's how you do this.
1) Make sure that your machine is on the latest service pack of your OS

2) Plug in your dance pad(s) via USB cable (make sure that your computer recognizes them as such)

3) Open Stepmania

4) Put Stepmania in "home" mode (press F3 until you see in your upper left screen "Coin mode: home"

5) Go to Options

6) Go to Config Key/Joy Mappings

7) Use your pad to input your directions

8) Once finished, press Esc

9) Exit the Options menu

10) Start playing Stepmania w/the dance pad instead of the keyboard

Hope this helps you out. I have a 13 footer Oni song (Sailor Moon OST) that I've passed w/the keyboard, but yet to do it on the pad...I always fail about 3/4ths through the song. Everything else I've downloaded I've passed w/@ least an A, on both Heavy & Oni.

This is a little late but thanks. I'll try it out tomorrow and see if it works.

Edit: BTW can I get that Sailor Moon file from you?

Ok it works but whenever I jump it thinks I'm pressing three buttons at the same time. You know anything about this?

This thread is a bit old but I think I might know what your problem is. For my red octane pad I have to hit select, start, and up at the same time to switch modes. The mode it starts in is a joystick mode and you want it to be in button mode.

When you map the keys for the arrows does it say something like joy1 or button1?
