Petro is coming from a word of Petroleum. In UK they use Petrol(Gasoline). However the Petroleum was not really a gasoline. The petroleum is the crude oil and they making the gasoline from it. I think the disel too. The only differences between the Gasoline and the disel is the temperature they making it. Gasoline is made on higher temperature. I think the process is called Atmospheric Destillation. Not sure tho. Maybe somebody else remember better. I learned these 20 years (too long) ago.
