repairSo the Infiniti 1-800 people pretty much rejected me today (background to this story here: http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread/360247)

They said the dealer could provide at least reputable evidence my car was "tampered with by non-Infiniti people." She said I could go one step up the Automotive Association (or whatever the BBB of the dealership is called) and also get a copy of the diagnostic from the dealership but not the proof they provided because it was 'proprietary.'

Not sure if it is worth it at this point to go any further. The biggest thing hurting me at this point is the fact it is pre-owned and I can't say much for it's life before me. I'd give them the AC maybe having been tampered with but the fact that at least one of the rear doors worked and then quit working while under my possession is what irks me.

You need to sit down and write a firm but not nasty letter to Infiniti.

Include copies of the lease transfer. Since no one but Infiniti ever touched the vehicle while you owned it, it was the dealers responsibility to inform you at the time of the transfer that evidence exists that work had previously been performed on that vehicle by a non Infiniti dealer. If they failed to properly inspect the vehicle at the time of the transfer to you it is their responsibility to repair it.

Should that effort fail you can always follow up complaints to the BBB and your department of comsumer affairs.

The purchase of an automobile is the most expensive purchase a consumer makes today with the exception of a home.

It is for that reason that I no longer purchase used vehicles.

Better to purchase a Nissan or Honda Civic brand new than to stretch for a used Infiniti headache. Just my $.02

Good luck

NO way would I trade my Infiniti for a Honda!

So even though they just had to facilitate the lease transfer/outright sale between two non-dealer associated parties, it is their responsibility to still inspect and make sure the vehicle is perfect? I just want to make sure that is correct because they just sat us down and said here's your paperwork-enjoy your car.

I also sort of thought that it hurt me that no service records were in there...the guy did live 5+ hrs from a dealer so what if he did have work on it elsewhere?

I just feel like I am stuck in-between a rock and a hard place here!

Keep fighting... ask to talk to the owner of the dealership, or the regional service manager... whatever it takes. They should either provide proof ("proprietary information" be damned) or the repair.

I have found that nicely but firmly pressing them until you get what you want will typically work. Eventually they will view it as a matter of "is it worth it just to make this guy go away..."

Heath is right. Only way to win in this situation if you start pressing step by step. Don't be harsh tho. They will get sick of you soon and they give up.

Agreed. Keep the high road in the conversation, but be persistent.

Your right, Firmness and patience. Maybe if you have any lawyer friends they may be able to write a letter to cooperate. A high quality well respected body shop should be able to give you an unbiased second opinion if there have been body repairs. Did you have to have it looked at for your insurance?

No-it was just stuff I figured should be covered with the warranty. However, my A/C and rear doors are mysteriously not between my front bumper and my rear bumper.

I was real nice with the lady at the Infiniti 1-800 number...told her I appreciated her help and she did give me the service manager name and number to get the diagnostics from and then also the BBB of the automotive world (forgotten name) phone number. Do I write a letter next or try the number she gave? Who does a letter go to exactly, same place as the 1-800 number I already tried?

Man, I feel your pain. This is really sad coming from an Infiniti dealer.

I would say to try calling the manager, customer relations should email them your details. Let them know what's up and they should be able to help.

I cannot really make a claim either way though without looking at your car, so don't take my word too seriously it's an observation.

I understand and appreciate your help. I am going to first get the diagnostics report she told me to seek from the service manager. Maybe there will be some info on there that will push me one way or another. I just feel like this could be a non-stop circle turning into 'he said, she said.'

If it becomes a pain I will just mistake that Discount Tire commercial for the Infiniti Dealership commercial and toss my A/C unit through their front window if it stops working.
