On my way to taking Sharons friend Clara home the road Clara lives on isn't very smooth.

Spot a manhole cover elevated about 3 inches above the rest of the road, I say no problem i will just straddle over it. As i do it grabs hold of my exhaust, runs it through my rear bumper, and thus sets off my air bags. As the air bags came out I was burned on my arm, Sharon was burnt on her leg, and Clara who was in the back was cut on her forehead from a piece of the dash that flew off when the air bags deployed.

Was only going 5-10 miles per hour and not 10 seconds before it happened i said i didn't like this road cuz how bumpy it was. But anyways here are the pics.

its hard to see but thats how elevated the manhole cover was when i drove over it.

Theres the manhole

Bent the 3 inch metal pipe 90 degrees somehow.

Ripped the exhaust right off.

Airbags work!

on the wrecker.

but anways thats it. oh and one more thing i hate SC roads...the county is definately gonna be hearin from me shortly, this isn't going unanswered and i will not pay for the county's slackness.

no engine damage what so ever, not even any front damage, only damage to my exhaust and rear bumper. airbags of course which also caused damage to my dash!

the girl that was hit in the head was sent to the hospital for the cut on her head and she is ok, she was just freakin cuz forehead injuries tend to bleed alot, she isn't even going to have to get stiches just gonna get tapped up and she will be fine.

same thing happened to my buddies accord after we put the coils on, except he was going through an intersection and his airbags didn't deploy. we had to turn around and pick up the exhaust though. sucks man.

i just dont understand how it the rods that attach to the hangars off the exhaust managed to go straight threw my bumper, i was only going 10 mph maybe.

i also dont see how my exhaust got bent like it did, doesn't make sense to me.

bozoku ftw!!

good luck with the settlement, I live around some really bad roads that tear up shocks, tires, etc..which is the fault of the city, i think. We pay a lot in taxes when we get payed, when we buy stuff, when we make money on investments or "capital gains", I think it's not too much to ask for some decent as$ roads for everyone's daily use

if SC is anything like NC you can sue the city/town/county for the damages to the vehicle.

one lady pulled in to the parking lot at my work and took the corner to sharp and hit a whole. it blew the tire, cracked her bumper and bent her lower control arm. the city paid for everything cause she went from city rd to a business that is also owned by the city

hope everything works out for you

if your cars lowered at all, i doubt theres any chance you'll be able to get any money from the govt. for what happened.

they'll say that your car was illegally modified, or something like that, and that cars with factory equipment wouldnt have been affected by such a hazard in the road.

good luck with it.

oh, i think the exhaust bent from either hitting the towhook in the rear, the bumper cover itself, or maybe one of the hangars really didnt want to let go.

who made your exhaust?

I cant remember how much my car was lowered exactly because it was done before i bought it, i wanna say about 1.5 inches.

the cops said that they dont think it will go anywhere in court because it was lowered, but it wasn't illegally low or anything

way i see it, if a car is of legal height, the roads should be in good enough condition for it to handle it.

my exhaust was a megen type 2 catback.

but my dad went to the neighborhood where it happened now and i know he is going to raise hell about this, my dad doesn't let **** like this go.

im bettin we will get some money outta this.

its a road down off 378 near the hospital, if you go past the hospital and take a left at the light near the burger king, it was down in there.
