  1994 Q45 $2500 East TN

Clean, two owner Q45 for sale, runs great. It was purchased new locally (Harpers) and was bought dealer certified from the Harpers in 2000 - so the car has always been a south, local car.
The car has high miles (215K) due to being driven nearly 100 highway miles daily between 2000 and 2004. The car is totally stock, and has everything it came with (original titanium key, floor mats, etc, service records and all paperwork. It's not perfect, but well above average, and a lot of car for the money. I hope to sell it here so it can go to a true Q45 enthusiast. Otherwise it would be an easy local sale...but I hope that is not necessary.

Do you have service records plentiful and handy?

About a 7 hour drive for me so I'm fairly interested

I agree. So far I have turned down two "unworthy" buyers...one a 19 year old girl, the other a 17 year old kid going into college this fall.
Apparently in this price range there will be people simply looking for any car that is cheap and looks good, but have no idea what they are getting into. For now, the for-sale sign is no longer in the window pending success on this forum!

Here is what I found right off the bat. These are from 9/29/00 to the present. For conversation's sake, after looking at the paperwork, the car was $13995 in 2000, and $47,950 new...wow!

Don't you dare turn me down, I'm only 21 but a student and full time service adviser for a Toyota dealer, very confident in my ability to maintain a second Q.

I'm going to grab one of my buddies and see if I can get a roadtrip in this weekend.

The guy was planning to live on campus for the next 4 years, which at UT means 4 years of steet parking / Knoxville sun baking, potential weekly hit and runs, as well as the car being broken into at least monthly (just ask anyone at UT, or read local news sources).
In addition, this would mean it would only be driven maybe a mile here, a half a mile there - probably only to bars / clubs / convenient store / burger king - which is about the only time students leave walkable campus areas...hense more parking lot and drinking related damage.

Simply put, it would have been destroyed in a year, or would have seen the fate of a decent percentage of UT student's cars...being towed away by the city after they abandon it: when the first debilitating mechanical problem arises, or when they don't enough money to keep insurance and registration up - which will also get your car towed by the city.

In addition, he only had the "parent budget" to buy the car in the first place, so it would never have seen the first hint of maintainance, much less even an oil change. I just didn't have the heart to sell the car to him. Heck, I wouldn't have sold anything to myself at 17, much less a Q45. The car is simply way too nice for such a fate, and at this price, will sell sooner or later anyway.
I just hope it sells to someone that a. appreciates the car for what it is and b. realizes what it takes to keep these cars up. If I didn't care, it would have been sold the first day.

I would say it may have at least half of those things done, but wow, if that is what people on here expect for a $2000 car...in addition to the fact that it is nearly perfect cosmetically, I will likely just put the sign back on it, or donate it.

At least I won't bad about doing that now.

how does it run for a car with 215k on it? i know q45's last forever
if well maintained, does it still have plenty of get up and go!
have you ever done a compression check , just curious!

Its a beautiful car!!! Looks very well maintained!!
would you take any less?
i know the car is worth it im just so far away its gonna cost
another $2000.00 to get it home!

It runs fine, not a single rattle, no oil used between changes, no smoke, ice cold AC, etc - could pass for a 2004 with 10K as far as how it runs. The car was owned until 2000 by a 50-something engineer, and since 2000 - a retiree with oil changes every 3K...driven seasonally to the keys and back w/o a hitch, and 100 miles daily for 4 years. On top of that the car is in one of the few area of the country where cars don't get corosion / rust. In my opinion, way too much car for the price.

But after Rex's post, and then you asking if I will take less for a car you have not even seen not to mention the fact that there is more than $2000 invested in new parts in the last couple years anyway, I will probably not bother with selling it on this forum anymore, as this didn't turn out like I had hoped or expected. Listing it here was to be done out of principle...as more money and a quicker sale could be done locally. But if this is how it goes, why bother?

Well, no I wouldn't expect all those things to be current on a $2k car, but would like to know if any of those items are still the original 1994 pieces. Just trying to get an understanding of what might need addressing when.

I doubt you would find a $4000 Q45 with the service this one has had, or one in the same condition externally either...but if so, buy it.

Anyway, at this point consider the car no longer available. Since the car was more less being given away, it just isn't worth the hassle of getting lowballed or nitpicked. Remember that stack of paperwork in an earlier post...just the last couple years alone shows more than $2000 in new (mostly dealer) parts, and face it, it would be tough to find a perfect running, 15 year old Dodge Neon with cold AC for $2500.

I may put it back up later however, with a fixed "take it or leave it" price...assuming I can't find a decent candidate for it locally, or a family member than can use it, etc.
If so, it will be just that...for sale at that price for a given time frame, and then gone if no interest (probably what I should have done here, but didn't know it would turn out this way).

Sorry to hear that .

And yes, I saw the "stack of paper", but couldn't read any of the print, thus I asked. Your asking price is more than fair.

Sorry, was just doing a little leg/asking a few questions work before flying down to drive a car home 6 hours. And yes, I'm serious. Delta has $99 one way ticket from Cincy (CVG) to Tri City, TN (TRI) this weekend.

hmmm, this thread makes for some interesting reading. Sounds to me like Rex was interested but had a few questions, as one would expect when buying a car. But hey, if you can sell it locally, go for it. I don't think anyones intention here was to low ball or nit pick on this thread but simply to get some addtional information. God knows , I asked plenty of questions when I was interested in that '92 vert that was listed out here. If you want to list it out here, simply answer the questions. Good luck with the sale. Hey Rex, I thought you were reducing he fleet, not adding to it.

I did. I'm down to 2, and wouldn't mind having another Q, especially if it's clean and rust free. I'm going to look at 1 locally as well as a J30 in the next few days.

Man!....... I tried to get information from this guy and he is really angry and I never asked for any concessions. Just asked for pics or information on if the car had rust starting under the rear doors and he went off on me. He is some kind of angry. Im still looking for a nice Q to replaced the one that was wrecked. Man this use to be a very friendly and helpful forum, this thread is a very angry thread. When was the last time you found a great looking Q that needed a ton of work? If you don't get the answers before you buy, you could be SOL!!! Trying to buy from a seller that dosen't want to answer questions could spell TROUBLE, despite how the car looks

That's total BS - and on top of that you bringing our outside business online is sleazy...I was just going to let this thread die until you started that.

In reality he wanted a bunch more pictures. Sure, had this been the first request, I would have simply said something like, "OK if I get a chance to do so I might, but if it sells before then, sorry".
But keep in mind this has been a componding effect:
It started with konatown saying he was coming this weekend whom I never heard back from, then getting lowballed by another poster, then one being asked if I had $10,000 in maintainance on a $2500 car, then after all of that Jazzy wanting at least several more pictures (since we are disclosing offline conversations apparently), after his (bogus) spiel he wrote to convince me to put the car back up for sale...telling me how he also though subzero was wrong to lowball me, car unseen online, etc, yet he plays similar games?

You guys must keep in mind that I already had the car sold twice locally to non-Q45 people for quite a bit more money - and easily have several thousand in recent work / parts - w. records to back that up. So if I had a use for the car, I would have no reason to sell it...so getting put through the ringer with every person interested so far just doesn't make sense. I just didn't want the car to get destroyed by a bad owner. Guess I may have to find a way to "wash my hands of it" and go ahead and sell it to the first bargain hunter that comes along, because on the open market, a perfect running, sharp looking anything at $2XXX is a rare find...

The only reason I even bothered to put it on this forum is that I figured people that actually knew / loved these cars would jump on a Q45 with a stack of records looking like it does for $2500 (asking), rather than all of this "I am not sure, can you convince me" type stuff. Guess I was wrong.

Maybe you guys don't understand principle, or are used to running sellers through the mill...I dunno, but stop for a minute and put yourself in my position. I only wanted the car to go to a "Q45 person, even if loosing money. No good deed goes unpunished.

Anyway, as said before, I may relist the car later at a cheap as dirt, fixed, firm price. Then it will simply go to the first person that comes and gets it...and trust me, the first person to see and drive it in person will take it. But for the record, I wouldn't sell Jazzman the lint out of my pocket, nor should you...as he will come back and post your lint discussions online.

... then one being asked if I had $10,000 in maintainance on a $2500 car...

I assume this was in reference to my questions. And I apologize if my inquiry came across as rude or abrasive. My intent was to know if these items had ever been changed in the 18 year history of the car, not if you did them in the last year. I was just trying to get a good base line idea of anything the car may need in the next year or so. I wasn't going to use the answers to try and "low ball" you. A clean/rust free 94-96 Q is easily worth your asking price, assuming the transmission hasn't just taken a crap or something. And I have no reason to believe there are any "running issues" with the car.

If I was within an hour, I'd come look at the car, and this may have saved you some headache.

I'll keep an eye out for a re-listing.

Sorry for any frustrations.

I understand what you are saying. Once again, it wasn't necessarily one thing (and not your post initially) as you will notice I still was going forward at that point)...but the lot of things aggrevated me...and on top of that now having Jazzhands airing out our (supposedely private) emails online...wow!

But I do see a better way next time if I put it on this forum however:

I will simply dig through all of these records, list the major things done, and say "if it isn't there, assume it hasn't been replaced"...even though it may have been, due to the first owner being the meticulous owner that paid $50K for it. I just didn't bother with that initially, as at this price I never once thought that would be an issue, and secondly it is often irritating to see the long lists of things like that on auctions / for sale posts...so I refrained to do that.

Next I will say, "these are the pictures I have, if you need to see more, you are better off to come in person". I initally thought that the pictures showed that the car was well cleaner than most of these and virtually any car in this price range. In other words, even if there is something not picked up in the pics, it would be irrelevant since the car is pretty much as straight cosmetically as any given 7 year old used car, and only $2500 (asking) On top of that, I hit every angle pretty well - taking a whole day to wash / photograph just for this forum, even though I already had people ready to buy it locally.

Anyway, those will be the steps I take...and if that is not enough for potential buyers on this forum, the car will simply not sell, and I can give it away, donate it, etc. after a couple weeks.
I guess I was just so stunned by the things due to the order that they happened,so I got caught up in it...when I should have just walked away, figuratively speaking. Either way, feel free to close the thread for now, as the car is not currently for sale...as I tried to say earlier b4 Jazzman starting emailing me directly.
