I have a redtop in my 95 240. First off, are the camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, and CAS all the same thing?

I pulled a code 011 tonight because my car's been running funny. It's been idling at 1500 rpm, and doesn't like to slow down. When you let off the gas it still gives it gas, and doesn't coast to a stop smoothly. The engine's just running really rough.

The CAS is the round thing by the oil dipstick correct? Is there any way of testing it to see if it's actually malfunctioned, or do I just have to replace the whole thing? Also, can I just pull it out to look at it, or will it mess up the timing by doing so? I don't have a timing gun, so I've never set the timing on this car. Any help would be great, thanks!

A quick thing to do would be to briefly disconnect the CAS while checking the codes in diagnostic mode without the car running then plug it back in and fire up the car. It "may" reset the ECU error code. I've done it on two seperate cars and it fixed the problem.

Okay, so after pulling the code from the ecu, unplug it and plug it back in, then start the car? I'll try that next time, I just erased the code last night, we'll see if the problem clears up first.

Is a CAS going out pretty common then? What exactly does it do, could it be harmful to anything? Thanks.

Well, the codes still coming back. Does that mean I have to buy a new CAS, or is there anything I can do to fix this one? Any help or experience is appreciated!

Anybody have anything to help out here? The code keeps coming back, and the car is running really wierd...really high revs and idling. What does a CAS do to the engine when it goes bad? Does it pull back timing?

And how hard is it to replace one of these? I can't find a writeup anywhere. Please help out!

As far as cas's being a common problem, I'm not sure. I know all the internet suppliers of OEM sr20 parts keep them in stock. FRsport.com has them and a tech write up on how the install them. Good luck.

Thanks, don't need one anymore though. I cleared the code and it never came back, so i guess it's good to go. The idles still high, but I'm guessing the IACV just needs cleaned out. Thanks!
