If anyone has interest to pick up where I left off I am considering selling my Z. Basically it needs the engine rebuilt or replaced. All of the hard work is done so to speak. The body needs completely redone, it has dings and scratches all over, a rusty place needs repaired but I have a patch to replace it with from a donor Z. As for the goodies it is pretty much loaded as far as suspension and electronics go. I have a build thread in the Z forum for those that haven't followed. I'm not sure what it's worth but I figure I have just over $5k invested in everything, not including my time. I figured I'd post here first since most guys here are into VH swaps. Email me if interested, I'll post all of the specifics later about the car, there are too much to list right now, gotta work.

I am going to eventually get a dual sport motorcycle, 650+ so I will consider trades.

Real quick on my lunch break...some of the add-ons.

Full suspension rebuild including energy suspension bushings throughout front and rear. Brand new, not even installed stillen adj upper links and tension rods that will come with it. Tein type-na adj coilovers, I have edfc installed but still need to mount the motors on the shocks themselves. Rear tires are in super condition, fronts need replaced after the install of links/rods and an alignment. Rear end in great shape, just changed oil to redline, cleaned and painted entire rear end and subframe. One piece amz driveshaft, Zees stainless exhaust with 70mm pipes to quad 100mm tips, exhaust is the ultimate, retails for $1650 and you'd have to import it. Brand new Howe radiator just installed with silicone elbows and brass tubing. Dual 12" fans. 92 VH bored .040 over, port matched intake runners with heads, de-hosed intake, egr delete, tcs delete, iac delete, custom rear sump pan/pickup, 3.5" alum intake tubing, silicone elbows, high flow filter, nico 4 way switchable ecu, new stock tt clutch, new 12lb flywheel, short shifter, bronze shifter bushings, many new interior parts, shift/brake boots, 300degree triple pod under radio with white faced guages, complete eclipse audio system, new rear brakes, q45 fuel pump, cruise control works, way too much time invested.

just a feeler...maybe I'll keep it if nobody is interested. I know this should be in the for sale section so I'll link it here. Thanks!

The only thing I concluded was that when I torqued down the crank pulley it got c***-eyed on the shaft. When the crank is spun by hand the pulley isn't true, it wobbles basically. I had 270 ft lbs but it wasn't pressing on the oil pump drive gear enough...apparently. Just add a vh and continue ripping this beast up. It is a totally awesome machine.

so do you think this would be ready to go with just a new crankshaft and bearings? meanign you wouldnt necessarily have to take the heads off or anything, just replace essentially the bottom end?

So basically it died because of oil starvation?

Car: lots of unique hot rods, and customs, with modern engines, and a good truck to pull the trailer.

Sux to hear.

Good luck with it. Did you ever get the hole in hood / covered? Too bad you didnt get to play with it. 3rd gear is FUN.

Spun bearings = complete rebuild. It's a guarantee that the metal is everywhere!

Oh no! That sucks man! With how plentiful these engines are, I'm surprised you wouldn't grab one up with good compression, do chain guide updates, reseal it and throw it in. But I understand about getting burnt out on this kind of stuff.

Down to business: Do you think there's any chance of it having been in the custom pickup tube fab? Between you and Craig having major oiling issues with custom setups, I've begun to worry.

And on a sappy note, just in case you up and run out of here, THANK YOU for your pioneering and contributions to the VH/Z32 swap. You have certainly paved the way for my and probably everyone else's similar project. You, sir, deserve major credit.

Ben,

I'm really sorry to hear about your car. I'll keep my ears peeled in case someone I know is interested in taking it on.....

Take care man, and as Z1 said thanks for your contributions in these unchartered waters.

Nick.

I too say thank you. For I am the one who started in Jan, right behind you, and followed a lot of your info. Our Problems help others, when they are in the same boat., or Z or whatever.

I understand why you are selling it. I am only selling mine for my son. Build and sell, build and sell, bays the bills, makes me and a lot of people happy.

The oiling. When I post a pic of the pan, that caused the oiling issue, you will undestand. Lack of supply, and------------- force made it too hard to get it THAT far forward. More supply SOLVED the problem, as I ran it from a dead stop pretty well, into 5th.

I am though making a new pan tomorrow, and tring to deside of rear sump, or mod it like Nick did, where it keeps the pickup tube stock, and it manages to clear the crossmember. It means a lot less panmod, and most of the sump stays. Will know tomorrow. I am getting a great deal on a motor, I drove the car today. Original owner, striping the car after a rear wreck. 105,000 miles. Now I can have some fun, and when I sell it, it can be a track car, or a boost car and not to worry about the motor. The other engine is not dead, but I did get it low on oil pressure and I did think that as I shut it off, I heard a knock start, so I already have it down to the long block, no intake, cooling, at all, just heads, chains and its oil pan and all. I'll get it built next month for the J45. .040 over. N do lots of port work. Craig

Hey all, sorry but I've been out of the loop for a while. The car is back in VA. I am working in Miramar FL at a new job. Everything is going well except the boredom is killing me. I wanted to sell the car and get a bike to give me something to do on weekends but now I'm reconsidering. After seeing a new GTR in person driving in Weston the other day I can't help but want to spank the **** out of him in my Z32. I am considering just letting it sit until I get out of debt and can afford to rebuild with boost. My ultimate goal would be to integrate turbo(s) and keep a/c too but I'm not sure it's possible or even worth it. Time will tell.

Thanks for the support everyone, my contributions are minimal though, mostly going off everyone else and adding in my 2 cents really. All the information is out there but this forum allows it all to come together in one place. I'll be lurking... and looking for a garage...

They don't unless abuse is involved. Long OCI or unqualified help.
