Just had my fuel pump replaced, no more humming at start up.

I just had my fuel pump replaced today. I was hearing the humming noise at start up that some members reported. I was going to wait until my first service but the noise was heard when accelerating as well and I did not want to take a chance of breakdown or serious problems. My EX runs so much quieter now. Service department told me that the received a bulletin about the fuel pump issue and all new EX's were having the pumps swapped at the port. he told me that all pumps will be changed whether they make noise or not. I bought my car off the dealer lot last month so my EX had the old pump. By the way, I bought my car from Circle Infiniti in West Long Branch, New Jersey and their service department is top notch and very professional. At drop off it took two minutes to get the car in and loaner was waiting and on pick up I was out in about 30 seconds as they pulled my washed and waxed EX to the door. They made my last Audi service department look like a Yugo dealership.

Thanks for the update, sluday!

My dealer's supposed to call me when they receive the replacment pump - that was more than 2 weeks ago. Time to bug them, I guess; I'm definitely NOT receiving the type of service you're describing!

Hi guys,

As a note, my dealer just advised me that my fuel pump replacement has finally arrived (around 2 weeks or so as well) so in she goes next Thursday!

I'll report back after that. Glad to hear that yours is running well Sluday!

WOW two weeks to wait for a part? My service department must have been ready for the fuel pump problem and stocked up. Do you think it is a Canadian parts distribution problem that caused the delay or just a lazy service department?

I'll bet they're on backorder if so many are getting replaced. The factory probably can't churn 'em out quick enough.

My EX is currently in the shop for the fuel pump replacement as well as a few other items that I wanted taken care of at the same time.

I will hopefully get the car back tomorow night and see what changes if any it made.

I had my fuel pump replaced under warranty last week. The vibration that I was experiencing at startup is now gone. The tech did a perfect clean install and the dealership gave me a G35 loaner for the day it took to peform the service.

When I took my EX in for its first oil service, I requested they replace the noisy fuel pump as well. As many others have experienced, the part was on backorder. As soon as I receive notice it has arrived, I will post an update.

After reading all of your posts, I called my dealer today to inquire about the fuel pump replacement. Markham Infiniti told me that they have no knowledge of a recall on the fuel pump for any of the EX35. He said if or when there is a recall, I will receive a notification in the mail.

The service rep wanted to know where in the world I heard this info, as he has not received any communique or any service bulletin advicing that there are any known issues with the fuel pump. ... .I replied, Infiniti Forum rules

The part finally arrived and I got my fuel pump replaced Aug 19th - no more noise.

The bad news is that the dealership scratched my shift knob again (2nd time now), so they have to order a new one for me.

I had a couple of minor things done yesterday and I told my service rep also about the fuel pump issue because I definitely was hearing it since I bought my EX last week.

The service rep had no idea what I was talking about but another one overheard us and said that he did. So the rep ordered a fuel pump for me and hopefully it'll be here in 5-10 days (maybe not if everyone else in the country is doing the same). He also mentioned that he ordered additional fuel pumps to prepare for the onslaught of replacement requests.

So if you're in the DC area, you can look into Passport Infiniti in Alexandria. Just remember I got dibs on the first one!

Sounding like I have the same issue with my new EX35 ... it started making a humming noise at start up a few weeks ago but I thought it was my imagination. It is now making the same (or worse) noise during acceleration. Booked in for 1st service on Thursday so going to advise them to get this addressed.

My service department told me that they had received a service bulletin from Infiniti about the fuel pump problem. I am not sure if this means it is a official recall or just a heads up to be aware about the problem. I would check with another service department if they would do the repair. I am not sure why they would give you a hard time about the pump. The dealer gets money from Infiniti to do the repairs so they lose nothing.

My dealer is aware of a problem with the fuel pump ...he told me what the symptoms were before I said anything more. They have the pumps in stock ready to go. There is no official recall & they haven't received a bulletin yet ... although he did say that this could be a US versus Canada thing. Anyway getting it fixed on Thursday along with the 1st service.

I now have one new fuel pump ... price: free ... hopefully this one will be problem free.
One new tire (thanks to a nail in the sidewall) ... price: $309

At that price for tires I'll be shopping elsewhere in future (comparable at other tire specialist circa $180 ... so that's some dealer markup)!

My EX makes a brief weird noise upon startup as well. It lasts about a second, and then disappears. Feels like it comes from the rear of the vehicle. May this be the fuel pump problem you are talking about? If it is, how dangerous is it if I don't have it replaced? (I don't mind the noise and it doesn't affect the performance)

Yup that's exactly what it sounds like ... and I was assured by the dealer that there is no fear of mechanical failure / breakdown. They replace it under warrenty as it isn't supposed to make that noise though.
I figured if I'm paying that sort of money for a vehicle it should be just right, especially if covered by warrenty.

« fuel pump replaced and paint issues

Well, my EX is going on Friday to have the fuel pump replaced too.
I thought the "hum" sound was part of the starting procedure...it had a nice melody
Thanks for being this to my attn everyone...especially sluday who first reported the issue.

Out of curiosity...
Is anyone else having bird dropping issues?
I have a good coat of carnuba on the paint and keep it meticulously clean....
once my EX gets "dropped on", I need to wipe it off immediately or a "scar" is left...has happened 4 times now ...wonder if it is a dark currant paint weakness??

I have had the same problem with my Black Ex i have now resorted to a bug and tar cleaner that is safe for all clear coats.. it appears to be citrus based to me best estimates.

All so has anyone had preset problems where a FM station causes the preset number to disappear, resulting in a looping of 2-3 presets so you can not access the rest in the Category, it may or may not happen in both up and down directions from steering wheel.

Thanks

I had the same fuel pump humming noise when starting the engine; I had the fuel pump replaced as described in Service Bulletin ITB08-025, and the noise is now completely gone.

(When I mentioned the noise to the service advisor at the local dealer, he said pretty much all the EX35's have the problem, and they hadn't found a way to fix it; he said even replacing the fuel pump didn't help. But he wasn't aware of that service bulletin, so I guess they hadn't been replacing it with the different pump. I showed the service bulletin to him and asked him to follow that; he was surprised/glad to see that it actually worked.)

I haven't experienced that problem, but when I was browsing Service Bulletins at [another forum] I noticed ITB08-037, titled "RADIO WILL NOT SCROLL THROUGH ALL PRESETS (NAVI-EQUIPPED ONLY)". I wonder if that applies to your problem. It says "IF YOU CONFIRM: Preset A, B, or C does not scroll through all six (6) preset stations... ACTION: Replace the A/V Control Unit". It says it applies to EX35's built before 3-18-08.

I had my fuel pump replaced at the dealer. I am a bit disappointed though, the previous humming sound was actually giving the car personality Right now the initial ignition sounds la bit cheap, like a used car engine - or diesel engine even - at start up: cha-cha-cha wrooommmm

Passport Infiniti.

Service rep said he was stocking up on the fuel pump in case more people started asking for them.

Well apparently they had the fuel pump but the O-ring seal was not in the box. So I have to wait another day to get my baby back.

I also had to get the TPMS reset. Got the system failure warning. Worried that it's going to be a recurring issue.

On another note, I asked my sales rep if it was possible to get some touch up paint for the plastic part of the steering wheel. There's a hairline scratch to the right of the cruise control buttons. Didn't notice it until after I bought the car. It's just an annoying cosmetic flaw, but I was willing to live with it if there's was no way to get the paint.

My sales rep called me back and said that they can replace the entire steering wheel just to make me completely satisfied with my purchase!

I would have it checked out. My bad pump made noise at start up in the beginning and then I heard the humming while driving and on hard acceleration.

I posted this on another thread a second ago, but I guess it's more relevant here....

My EX just went in for a service, I just got off the phone with them, its nearly ready, just being washed, but she said they had replaced the fuel pump, and asked if I had noticed a hum when you first start it up. Quite honestly I hadn't, although maybe when I get it back in a couple of hours I will miss a hum.

Anyway, they replaced this without me asking, I hadn't mentioned any hum or anything about the fuel pump when I took it in, it was just in for a regular service. Is this a recall, or are they not classing it as that?

The same for me, received a message on my cell that my part was in. I called them and ask what part?, i was told it was a fuel pump. they said that it was humming when i had it in for service. Great service, i don't think some other car company would do this for you. I have to burn up some gas before i bring it in......................................:-)
Update 10/24/08
The part came in and had it installed. It only took them about an hour to do. They still gave me a loaner for the time i was their. At the old age never could hear the humming in the first place.....:-)

I also thought that the hum at start up from the rear was normal. After I gave my dealership a call the first wk of September to inquire about the recall, I figured there was no need to be concerned per their reassurance.

I am glad to see your post, that you had yours replaced at Markham Infiniti. I will have to give them a call to let them know this will also need to be fixed when I bring my car in for its first service next week.
