'94 injectors - this is wierd...

I have an idling/driveability problem w/my ''94 Q45a.

My wife used to drive the car every day (my other car is a '96 Town Car) and when I was working elsewhere, she had the shortest drive, so it was easy to tell her to drive the Q for ~14 miles a day instead of my 25+ - better gas mileage and regular gas being a big incentive at prices what they are.

When she complained about the car missing and not running right, I drove it for 3 weeks with no problems. I was ready to turn it back over to it when it started idling rough and not running worth a crap - the check engine light came on.

I tested the injectors and found 3 either dead or out of spec as far as ohms go. (Two dead one @ 48 ohms).

This was at the connector. When I tested two AT THE INJECTOR (after spraying electrical contact cleaner on the connector and waiting a while), one was 48 ohms and two were DEAD.

This morning, I started the car and the check engine light was off and the car ran perfectly!

I drove it about 20 miles and took it to get emissions tested (I live in metro Atlanta and we have to be tested each year within a month of the owners' birthday) and it passed with no problems.

I am at a loss here...

I know dam@ well that I tested those injectors with a good Digital Multi-Meter and I know that they tested either out of spec or dead. (I actually have several digital and analog multimeters and got the same results with all of them)

Even after I did the test, I cleaned the connectors and still tested bad (either out of spec or dead).

WTF?

I have already ordered 3 injectors to replace the ones that tested bad, and I'm not worried about the money for those as I am about the inconsistency in the way the car is running.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Can anyone illuminate me as to what is going on?

Thanks,

Brad

Typical way the injectors fail from age and ethanol. I've seen some HEAL and Fail and HEAL over a short period before they finally commit suicide for good.

One of mine drove me batty back and forth: bad cold, good warm, bad hot for a few weeks.

We've had one customer change 4 of theirs, one at a time over 6 weeks.
They were all corroded and rusted on the injector screen.

As I've pointed out we are seeing exactly the same ratios of failures in 94+ as we were seeing in 90-93.

When did we change all the Texasoil accums 02-03? Bad memory, does system still feel as new? How many miles now?

I would begin to change fuel filters very frequently to remove the water, as you can buy 10 fuel filters for the price of 1 injector.

Which ones were funky? When we record ~200 replacements we can see if there is a positional relationship.

So far 1,2,3 are most popular

Gosh Dennis - my memory is about as bad as yours I guess, I can't remember when I talked T3 into replacing them. I DO remember that I was the first one that they did... I think it was more like 2000...

The injectors that showed dead were front two on the passenger side and the out of ohm range was #8 (also on the passenger side).

Still feels good - only complaint I have is the one I've had for years - when I go over a speed bump or one of the (twenty mph school zone bumps) I get a GRAUNCH out of the left front suspension.

Tension rods or ball joint? Surely upper links, steering rack bushings, anti-sway bar bushings, link bushings and tension rod bushings are all up to snuff?
