I use Nero 7 Ultra because that's what came on my computer.Disks I use whatever was on sale when I bought 200.Drive, I use what came with my computer.

Is any of that the "best"? Probably not, but it works good for me.

Doesn't work well for my wife. She wants the best burner and drive available because it will have better music

You're wife is nutty. There is more degredation in music due to being converted to MP3 than there is in one burner to the next. And in all actuallity, there will be no audible difference from one drive and disk to the next because it's all digital.

Software could make a difference, but so long as quality software is used, I would again doubt and audible difference can be heard. Thus far, I've not been able to hear a difference between disks, drives and software.

However, there is a huge difference between rips and music formats (MP3 vs .flac vs .wav)

Concentrate on what's most important; The audio source.Imagine trying to build a nice house. Would you first start polishing rocks that will go in the fishtank or start doing ground work to pour a foundation? Swapping drives and disks is like polishing rocks.

If your wife wants the best, tell her to start buying SACD's and DVD-A's and to stop burning off bad rips. Then get some Martin Logans in order to hear the difference.

...Or whatever high end speaker of your choice, just make sure you tell her it's for her benefit!

CD+R? Typo or rare blank optical format?

Typo. As has been mention the rip is more important than the software. Since all of my software is pirated, WMP runs the fastest and that's what I use. It's fast and reliable. What more do you need for music discs?

^ It's all about the initial rip. Although i was reading something yesterday that said the human ear can't hear the difference past 220k or something.

But here's my opinion on the other stuff.Personally i only use TDK or Memorex disks, much less coasters then cheapos.Burner i've got is some lite-on sata drive, only thing the drive matters about is speed.I use 2 versions of nero, the version 6 suite, and 5.5 modded to get around almost every copy protection. They all do the same thing.
