Sean, Joe,

I'm starting the thread here, if you need to move it, that's cool.

Ok, there's been a lot of talk about swapping the belt driven fan on the 03/04 Sedans to an electrical one.

Here are some facts that Tony at Riverside Infiniti was able to drum up for us.

-If your 5 speed Automatic Sedan has a build date between 08/02 and 10/03, you have the belt driven/clutch style fan.

-The 6mt Sedans have the electric fan

-Both the 6mt and 5at have the same radiator

-The fan and shroud are different between to two systems

I spoke to Tony about a GB or discount and he was able to work something out for us. Email me about the discount, because I don't want to get him in trouble.

From the preliminary research, it looks like there isn't a relay in the engine fuse box, so some sort of custom electrical harness will have to be fabbed. If I get a chance, I'll check out the FSM to see if the electrical diagram gives any answers.

That should be March of 04 meaning you have the electric fan.

It's actually pretty easy to verify visually.

Just pop your hood and look at the fan(s) between the radiator and engine.

If the fan is attached to the engine with a belt turning it (or possibly not turning it depending on how hot it is), you have the mechanical fan that robs HP.

If you see the fans sitting in their own little shroud with small electrical motors, then you have the electrical fans and don't need to convert anything.

I may add a link to the G-series FAQ page if the thread proves worthwhile.

Thanks for the heads up!

Not sure. It was one of my projects. Nobody really did much with it, so I didn't persue additional info.

The fuses on our cars were pissing me off. So I did the sure fire way of just hooking the fan to a switch with 2 fuses. Both 15 fuses. Have to keep it safe.

I don't have pics of my fuses but I do have a pic of my 14 mishimoto fan.

Here is how I mounted my switch.

The switch looks better in person. Looks pretty stock.

I know you like your way, but it seems that the rest of the guys want to make theirs turn on and off automatically like it's "supposed to" be.

1+ for automatic power relays or whatever, thanks for this post, the fools at the Infiniti shop here couldn't seem to give me this much info... lol

I would be interested in getting one, if we can arrange a GB, I'm in!!!

I actually did a lot of research on this a month or so ago as I wanted to do it at the same time as my pulley upgrade. Unfortuantely from what I've learned the stock electrical fan for the 350z/g35 won't work as the relays and hook ups aren't the same and the amount of work required to hook them up properly along with the cost is too much.

Theres a guy on another site that came up with a pretty good system (with 3-4 variants on connections...ECU...AC...etc) that incorporates an aftermarket fan along with some other parts from the same company that basically creates the same thing as a stock electrical fan (what you're looking for I believe). A quick search on google can help you find the thread that he started with his information on contacting him to find out the actual schematics of the whole install.

Honestly though, theres little proof of any real hp gains, and for the price of the parts plus the time required for the install (hope you understand all the electrician mumbo jumbo also) its really not worth it unless you have someone experienced in doing the conversion to help you for the day.

I personally disagree regarding the worth issue.

I don't have the pulley fan and I don't make any kits for it either, but I can see a definite benefit due to the parasitic loss inherent with crank driven accessories.

I personally don't like systems whose efficiency is directly related to how fast my engine is running. If I could make my A/C run efficiently independent of the crank, I would. Hearing it spool in the summer heat when I decided to floor my throttle isn't a wonderful sound and the power loss is sad.

Any accesory that is being run by the engine is robbing you of horse power.

The electric fan conversion is an old school mod that has been done by drag racers for a while...reason being that it frees the engine to do what it was made to do.

1+ 1+ 1+

Now, that we've cleared up this misunderstanding, are there any kits in the works for our cars? If not, why?

Ok. This should be pretty simple to make.

Anybody in SoCal with the belt driven fan want to do this?

Your money, my expertise lol

If something comes of it, I can do an article on it and also offer a "kit".
