I am pretty sure the answer is no, but have a broke customer with a 95/96 that is about to have a hole in side of eng from a rod knock, and found a great 93 eng, but sure they are not interchangeable. Thanx, craig

It could be done but would definitely take a lot of work. Also, if you have emissions testing in your area would definitely be illegal and wouldn't pass as the 3rd gens only had OBD-1 while the 4th gens had OBD-II. Also, unless its the DOHC 3.0 it would make the 4th gen very slow. The SOHC V6's are really only good with boost.

Thank you,

I found a great 93 eng for 200, hard to pass up, if it can be done, I assume, swap oil pans, and eveything on it, both are automatic, slow or not, he wants it to run, not worried about speed, he's tired of the bus.

Any idea if wiring would be similar? I can get a 95 motor for 500, but he is broke. If thats what it takes, then...

To do the earlier engines you'll also need the transmission as the bolt pattern between the VG/VE is different than the VQ. You'd also need to make sure the axles match with the 4th gen's hubs.

Wiring wise, my guess is it'll be kind of like the VH swap into your Z. You'll need the wiring harness and ECU and probably have to splice some wires in. If the 95 has CONSULT you'll lose that feature as the 3rd gens didn't have it.

Motor and transmission mounts will also probably be different but the oil pan probably won't be too much of an issue. I bet they're all front sump. I know the VG is, pretty sure the VE is, not sure about the VQ.

I checked out http://www.car-part.com and found a VQ for 300 up in Dallas. Its a bit of a drive but would probably be worth compared to trying to swap the engine. I just see lots of headaches in trying that swap. You may also just try searching for a VQ block at car-part.com and swap the heads over and such.

Thanx

Guess that stops that. For the amount of money he has, thats not happening. Have to find a decent 95 engine, for 400 or so.
