Hi guys, Just to introduce myself, my name is Alex, Nissan has been in my family for as long as i can remember.

I just bought an ivory Pearl 05 G35 coup 6spd loaded with everything besides Navi. I am upgrading from a 2000 nissan maxima, which i have put over $10k worth of mods into.

Pictures: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/484611

I am not going to go overboard with the G as I did with the maxima, prob just a few things here and there.

My question is, when i was test driving the G it had a "Rev" light on. what does that mean?

Anything i should look out for in these?

where is the best place to buy aftermarket parts for the G besides ebay?

Thanks

(Edit) finaly took some pics:

More pics a few posts down

Welcome to NICO

The Rev light is just there to remind you to shift. You can adjust the RPM at which it comes on. Instructions are in the manual and I'm sure someone will be here soon to tell you how as well.

Some of the better places to buy parts are not actually on eBay. The best places are http://www.everythingg35.com, http://www.stillen.com, and others that you can find in the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum

If that Maxima is yours, then it looks really sick. I love it, but I love my G better.

Welcome to Nico. And I have to second the motion here that that is one fine looking Max.

I had a Max before I got the G and I loved it. Much as I loved the Max, I love the G more.

Glad you found us. Welcome to the family.

The rev light is a bit annoying, but you get used to it after a while. You can adjust the shift light RPM by toggling the trip miles reset button to a 1000 number. Then, hold it to change the shift RPM. It's just a shift warning light that flashes yellow to shift and red when you're over the selected limit.

Thanks for all the complements on the max guys.

To answer that question: "Wonder how fast the max was." It was pretty fast for a maxima, but the G is waaaay faster.

OK now i get what the Rev is for.

I was also told that you cant really notice the extra 18HP over the 03/04, and some say that the 03/04 G's are better to mod performance wise. Is this true at all, and if yes, how come?

Any issues i should be aware of in this car? or look out for in the future?

Thanks for everything guys, I'm glad i found NICO!

Most people like the 05+ because the bugs were worked out of the 03-04 models.

With your 05, here is the mod list I recommend:

1. JWT or Stillen popcharger with Z-tube2. MREV 2 lower plenium with 5/16th spacer3. CAT-Back exhaust (Stillen, Greddy, or HKS)

the pop charger was 1 of thye first on my list.kind of a noobi question but what is MREV 2 lower plenium? how exactly does ithelp the rev up engin?

why is it that the o5/6 have a rev up engin and the 03/04 does not. comfort?

Also i heard that they make a chip for these cars? do they actually show gains? i know that they have chips for almost every car, but in my past experience there where no proven gains with chips in Nissans.

All great questions! Check out our G-Series FAQ for tons of detailed answers! Let me give you a quick answer...

The MREV2 replaces the lower plenum to allow for better airflow. It is designed for the REVUP series engine which was in the 05+ G35 (the 07 sedan is a different engine version).

The spacer allows for better flow to the front cylinders in the air plenum. The 5/16 size is the best all-around size for most apps. In the 03-04 G35, all you need is the spacer. 05+ need the MREV2 and the spacer for optimal gain.

We don't have "chips" but ECU reflash is possible. However, it is a waste of money unless you have a power adder such as FI.

Pop Charger +1

The MREV is a better designed lower plenum. On the rev-up engines, you should get the spacer and it'll provide 15 HP/18 lb-ft.

The rev-up engine was just a newer design of the VQ, just like the HR is the new design seen in the 07/08s.

As for feeling the HP difference from 03/04 to 05/06/07 coupes, you can't. Some say that in 03/04 they kept the numbers down so that for 05/06 they could market a HP gain. But even if there is one, you can't feel it as the coupes have gotten heavier.

I remember awhile back that there was much anticipation for something from Cobb Tuning or something like that.

Oh, welcome to the club!!!

I'd stay away from 1st gens. Too many bugs. The standard brakes were kind of a joke. Interior isn't as nice.

Check the Mod Database. The three links in my Signature have great mods.

We'll be happy to help you spend your money!!!

I picked up my car yesterday morning.... and all i can say is WoW! I love this thing. The 6 speed is amazing! So much different from a maxima. What i found interesting is that i pout all of that money to tune my maxima;s suspension, and the stock suspension of the coup blows it away!

I will post some pics as soon as i can

Hi and welcome to the NICO family. You're gonna love your G. I've had car that I loved before, but none as much as the G. I used to have an '03 'til it was totaled in an accident. I'm currently shopping for a replacement. I'm also, one of those people that prefer the '03-'04's...despite the bugs. lol Anyway, welcome again, this is a great community!

Thanks for the welcome!

1 thing i noticed is that when i try to move the front seats forward, so that someone can get in the back, and i use the lever behind the seat, and press the small black button so that the seat auto slides forward, but it does not auto slide back to the original position. Is that normal? i end up having to slide it back myself.

That little button is very touchy. If you hold on to it, it won't work. If you push it to make the seat go forward, then push the seat back (upright), then try to use the button to get the seat to go back (to it's normal position), it won't work.

Sometimes, if you leave the car sitting for too long with the seat forward, the button won't work. If you touch the manual adjustment, the button won't work. lol

Hope that helps.

Sweet pics! Loving that Maxima too!

yeah, that's normal, the seat will not go back with that button...which is retarded IMO.

The trick to the seat button.... (for the 6MT)

First, the car has to have the e-brake engaged. With the seat folded down, press the button; it will go all the way to the front. Now, to get it to go back to the original position, you cant fold the seat back to the normal position. The button will not work with the seat upright. If you press it after the rear passenger gets out, it will go to the original position. You don't have to do it when you first get out of the car...it can go back to the rear position when you want to leave later...just don't put the seat upright.
