I would talk to a local upholstery shop. I don't recall anyone on here doing anything of the like.

I have a friend who does this stuff on the side. It's my wife's cousin. He was local to me and did fantastic work. He got all twidderpated and moved to Indiana... Good choice with the marine vinyl - your upholsterer should appreciate that.

Yeah, the idea here is to do it on the cheap. I was thinking around $100 or less. I don't figure any uphostery shop will do it for that, but I haven't checked yet... I suck at artsy-craftsy things. Always have. Gimme a wrench or a powertool! I saw some posts with 'stitching' on the panels. I dunno if he did it himself or not. Just thought I'd check here. I'm fine with a somewhat amateur job/somebody who is learning. Doesn't have to be absolutlely stone perfect. Right now they look like sheite. Does your friend still do this stuff? I can ship from work with return labels and such.

It appears taht some of the verts came with this leather option as several on this forum have the same pattern.

<thread-jack> Yeah, I was extremely luck that the interior was in such great shape. It's practically new and the reason I haven't swapped for S14 doors. </thread-jack>

didn't vertbish wrap her inserts in that crazy pink zebra stuff? it turned out pretty damn good, so I would think she's good at it. She should chime in soon

If you want to give it a shot, pick up some headliner spray from Wal-Mart or someplace. And give it a try yourself. Just spray on, put vinyl over and roll out any air bubbles and wrinkles. Try it on a practice piece fisrt to get the feel.

Its really not that hard, maybe a little time consuming. I just finished mine last weekend. I re did the door panels, rear inserts and glovebox in black ultra suede. Next I'm gonna re do the rear seats.

I could probably pull off the rear panels myself. They're not that funky of a shape and I think the vinyl would probably stretch enough to do it.As for the front panels - I've tried (without the glue) to stretch it over those things. Without making that cut and seam like you have there, it's really not going to happen. I laid out a piece yesterday and tried cutting it to make the 2-part panel like that, and it didn't turn out too well. I have no clue how to set this up so I can sew the seam in and create a concave shape to fit the insert. As for it being 'not that hard'... well... I'm typically a do-it-myselfer on most anything, but I know my strengths - and I can't even cut a straight line with scissors without some kind of cheating aid. Artsy craftsy things are definitely my weak point. 1Sick - would you be interested in doing that to my inserts for $100? I can ship and provide a return label. That may not be worth your time, I don't know. Shoot me an email please.

it really souldnt be that hard to do. look up the glove box reupholstery thread and it might be easier then doing a glove box. try to see how the fabric bends around the shap of the insert. I have done my glove box and am planning to do my inserts too, both with marine vinyl. just be careful when playing with glue

its really not as hard as you think. as long as the material you have can stretch a bit, you can do it.I did a write-up on the doorpanels, its in my sig.

Not to be sassy, but I've read all the posts and even a write up that is on somebody's webpage off NICO. I found out too late that the panels for the vert have different inserts than the regular coupe. I actually spent about 3 hrs Sunday at a pick and pull looking for door panels from a hatch or coupe. Then I discovered that the inserts are actually built in to those panels. I also discovered that the upholstery actually comes off of those pretty easily. Not so much with my vert panels. ... Which leads me to my next point: I tried to remove the tweed crap, but whatever means was used to attach it to the insert has either been cooked by heat for too long, or is just ridiculously strong. I was able to get off about 3 inches of the stuff, but it's like imbedded/melted into the insert or something. Gave up and cut the crap off that I had gotten loose. Even tried sanding the stuff with my random orbit palm sander. That just frizzes the tweed up and (in my mind) makes it less likely that my glue will hold well if I glue over. So now, if I tried to go with felt or something over the top of what's left of the tweed, you are surely going to be able to see that edge of what I ripped off - much like a pantyline under tight jeans. And not nearly as appealing. So, I appreciate you guys who think this should be "not that hard" - that is why I went ahead and bought the vinyl (to do it myself), but I've been jacking with this crap for way too long. It just looks like it's gonna be super crappy. The scoop of the insert is pretty dramatic, so one would need to glue down the center and let it dry and then do the edges I suppose. Maybe I'll try doing it that way, but I figure the guys who have the seams in theirs (like 1sick) have the right idea. I just don't know how to get those measurements for the cutting of the two pieces. I CAN sew. Just don't know how to cut. I guess I'll probably go hunting for an upholstery shop that will do it for a reasonable amount locally. I was just hoping somebody had the time and skill. I also have a 11month-old daughter, a wife, a pool, a house, a bathroom remodel project(did i mention 'wife'), and a couple of bikes in the garage all demanding my time and focus. Oh yeah, and work... I actually want to fix these panels so I can sell it. I realize now that I just don't have time for another baby that needs attention. So if anybody wants to fly into Houston and drive back with a Vert, I will pick you up from the airport. $3000.00 2nd owner
