I need new tires on my 2001 Pathfinder. Currently, I have Toyo 255 65 R16s on it. I wasn't very happy with the tread wear on the Toyos. I'm looking for a better tire and possibly increasing the size. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'm not looking to do a lift. Thanks for the input.

Mike

thats a pretty big size already the biggest ive been able to fit on stock suspension is 265/75/16 and thats with a lot of cutting and trimming, no mud flaps i think the 75 was too tall but 265 was a good width next time im gonna check to see whats available in a 265/65 or a 265/70

I found this pretty cool tire calculator application

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I compared the 65 with the 70 and it was only 1 inch difference in diameter. I'm pretty sure they would go on without any rubbing. However, I was curious if anyone else has 255/70/16 s on their pathy. If so, how do they feel as far as ride quality. Any input would be grately appreciated. Again, I'm also looking for some ideas of what brand to get as well.

Thanks

Im riding on 245/70/16 rite now its a good height, but the tires are alittle too skinny for my taste. They dig down great in mud and snow but slice into sand way too easily. Loud and shaky on the street, single ply sidewall makes for some pretty sloppy turns but solid enough to be safe (comparing to my honda civic with race tires) the brand and type of tire that is best, depends on your driving type What do you do? Offroading? Regular street commuteing?

the 245/70/16 :

those are general grabber at2s 255/70-16

I'm happy with them ride is fine, noise isnt too bad (windows up you dont hear it) and its tackled light trails fine so far (nothing heavy duty to comment on yet)

I do rub slightly in reverse while turning the wheel and when fully over loaded on big dips etc

as for tire recommendation just like fueler says its all dependent on what you use the QX... 4 muwahaha

If you're going to be mostly highway/city driving i would get the Fortera TripleTred same size 255/65/16, and you want some off roading get the grabbers i heard they are very good. I would stick with the 255/65, they are the stock size for your pathfinder, and look right size wise.

Shady muthafu...

Anyway, I agree with Adam. Thats a good size tire already. I say change brand & style but the size if you aren't going to lift it.

I put 255/70-16 Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires on my 2001, the size was perfect, my speedo is now absolutely dead on. It was always reading slightly fast before, but with that size tire, it's perfect.

Although there was a slight rubbing, when reversing and full right lock on the steering wheel. That went away with the new springs..

pretty sure you'll be happy with them especially have the M/Ts you have

I had Yoko Geolanders AT/S before as well and found them to be pretty good tires just except for a little bit of feathering on the tread as it wore down which is almost normal for any AT or MT tire

ubpsanity: do you have any pictures of those tires on your truck? i've had the Geolanders onmy old Isuzu Rode and was pretty happy with them. The 255/70 size sounds like it would look really good on the pathfinder.

Changing the wheels? I have been very happy with 275/55/17's. Height is close to stock but the width is alot wider. Was told they wouldnt fit but depending on offset they fit fine.

I'm also running the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S (265/65/17) and love them, I've put about 20,000 km on them and they've been stellar for road noise and wear. They've seen ice, snow, mud, and even extremely steep gravel while towing 2000lbs of gear and haven't stuck or slipped yet. (they look good too).

The only area I'd say they're not perfect is ice at high speeds on twisting highway, but I haven't had many tires that I do feel 100% doing 120 on the 22 from Calgary to Crowsnest.

Not stock offset or size but those are Geos in my signature pic, I can post some closer shots when I go out today if you want to see the tread/sidewall closer.

I have the 17" three spoke infiniti rims on my pathy, would 275/55/ r17 fit? I do not know the offset of the factory three spoke infinity rims? Thank you, can you send pics?

I spotted this QX4 for sale online. I think the size of these tires are perfect. Doesn't hurt that they look like performance oriented Toyo's. Anyone have any guesses as to what size they are? I am really curious. Almost tempted to call the dealer...

Really?

I would have thought they were at least 255/65/17's.
