Under 500 HP, felpro is the only way to go. Over 500 HP go with either a Cometic or a custom copper HG.

I'd use a copper for everything if given the option. They are available without being a custom order....just google it.

I heard fel-pro is a good safety net for blown motors. instead of, let's say a detonation occurs, first to blow would be the headgasket instead of your internal motor components, driving up cost for your repair. Paper headgaskets. Copper seems like it would be too strong for what I'm doing. Blasting off towards turbo!!!!!!!

Trust me, people blow motors with non metal headgaskets all the time. I dont really buy into that normal headgasket acting as a motor 'fuse' thing.

QFT. In experience, the Cometic MLS thing is too much trouble. Then again, I'm too lazy to take my head off again to reseat it...

I have an s13 block, with a s14 head.. I had to change the upper timing chain cover, and I think that's it.. but if it's together already, you're good to go.. get the head resurfaced, and the block decked just for reassurance.. it only cost me $40 to do the head, and about the same for the block.

is the upper timing chain not the same for the s13/s14 motors?

have you had any leakage around the oil or water passage? I heard they tend to not seal well in that respect. any truth? Would a copper head gasket be reusable like any other copper gasket? Lastly, would it seal minor imperfections in the surface like ext gaskets? I just have a lil leakage into one of my water passages and wonder if a copper gasket would take care of it? not smoking just runs hot sometimes

Pure copper is about a 2 on the harness scale, while steel is more like a 5-6. Thats a huge difference. Copper will seal minor imperfections when its torqued down, steel will not.Again if your not going for huge power, go with a fel-pro.

480sx so yes it is re usable? sorry didnt get a clear y/n on that.well I dont really plan to make over 300 anytime soon, but one day a rather large set of injectors will fall into my lap and I'll use them. So would it be wise to go ahead and do the copper h/g now? Plus I've been through , this will be three, first time didnt need it but the motor had some bad pistons, same with second, this one isnt sealed right, wonder if its the arps backing ou, my bud's sr just blew a gasket like that? another question just came to me while typing.. do they have any issue when used on force fed and meth/water injection? dwvilmb I too have spoken out of mis information

No need for me to spread mis-information.AFAIK, lol, headgaksets like Cometic MLS are resuable, if you are looking for that, but they do require better mating surfaces and more machine work. Just a heads up. I've seen a lot of people post that Fel-Pros are good up to ~400...

Fel-pros, not reusable. Copper is reusable. Fel-pro held NissanFanatics 30 PSI meth injected Ka together(twice) so, if it can do that i think it will be alright for your build too.

yeah I was just wanting something reusable... one day I plan to actually do a bottom end build.... even maybe try to make 400whp and stop the dd with it. I need to just make a thread w/ current setup and future plans

On a performance engine build, you are not using a gasket to seal ****ty mating surfaces. In demanding situations, it is imperative that the gasket is being used only for sealing purposes and has clamp load equally distributed across the entire surface of the gasket. With that being said, Cometic does not suck because it won't seal your cylinder head that resembles a ruffles potato chip. And the OEM is not superior because it can seal that particular application. Each has its purpose. You mentioned 350whp, and I never had a problem with the stock gasket at that power level.

The next time I do a headgasket job, I am going to try some of those 3M plastic wheels for use with a die grinder. They look like a Sctoch-Brite pad. I tried them on some random piece of aluminum and they worked ****ing great.
