My 06 M35x has a clicking sound coming from the left rear brake when you come to a slow stop with the brakes applied. If I had hubcaps it would sound like a rock was trapped inside and tumbling around. The dealer put new rear brakes on last November. Any ideas?

I'd take it into the dealer and have them look at it ... you are under warranty, right?

(Nothing is caught on the inside of the wheel itself, right? Like a twig or something like that?)

I know this might sound kind of stupid, but about a month ago, I had the same sound coming from my front passenger side wheel...a "hub-cap" sounding clicking sound one day when my wife was backing out of my driveway. Anyway, as soon as I popped off the center cap, out comes a lug nut that must have worked itself loose I don't know if this could be the same sound you are experiencing or not, but definitely check it out for sure if you have not yet. For me, it was a simple fix, yet a potentially dangerous and stupid thing to have happen.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Another good suggestion too.

Yes, please torque your wheel lug nuts to the required value for sure! I check mine occasionally - definitely do it yourself after each wheel rotation (I do mine at the place I buy/install the tires from), since I do not trust them to keep their torque wrenches accurate, calibrated, undropped, etc.

BTW, I bought my torque wrench at Sears rather than an online store, because they will calibrate the torque wrench periodically for free ... reminds me, I need to get mine done ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I took the car in, at first the dealer could not reproduce the sound, after a little convincing they heard the noise. The tech pulled off the rear wheel but did not see any problem with the brakes. The service manager said it was the CV joints flexing and the sound was normal. When I picked up the car after hours, (no one in service to talk with) I discovered no more clicking. I think when the tech replaced the wheel he solved the problem by tightening the lug nuts. Funny I had the car at the same dealer a month earlier for an alignment front and rear, I wonder if the lug nuts were not tightened.
