Just in case anyone missed it, here's the link for your friends who have been knocked off the 'net by this. A perfect example of why I turned off automatic updates and wait for the forums to tell me an update is o.k. to install. I've helped a few friends overcome this one because they were knocked off the 'net before they got this email from Zone Alarm.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ZONEALARM CUSTOMERS

Good post!

This one bit me ... it took me a few hours of debugging to figure out the cause. I temporarily disabled ZoneAlarm for about 24 hours (ran Microsoft's firewall and my external NAT only), till I saw the update e-mail from the ZoneAlarm folks ...

Whew!

LOL. 24hours to figure this out.

Internet dies, safemode with networking. Works there. Kill all security. Done

This happened on 4 different computers I setup. They're all running firewall free now. Routers with DD-WRT FTMFW!!!

Well, actually, it took me a few hours (not continuous either) to figure out that the two were interacting badly - I only disabled ZoneAlarm for about 24 hours till the fix from Zone Labs arrived.

Go here: http://www.grc.com, run ShieldsUp (on the web) and make absolutely sure that your firewall is indeed good!

Too many firewalls do not work as advertised!
