  Bluetooth Ringer

Has anyone tried to turn off the car ringer in their bluetooth system? I have gone into the bluetooth menu and turned the car ringer off but yet when my phone rings the car ringer still sounds. I have turned it off and on numerous times but the car ringer still sounds every time my phone rings.

Anyone experience this same issue??

Nope, but I'll give it a go and see what happens...

Let you know.

Hmm, interesting find... I can't find a way to disable the ring either.

Tried turning off the "Use Vehicle Ringtone" option under the Settings -> Phone menu and no difference there.

Also tried turning down the Ringtone Volume under Settings -> Audio and while it does get much quieter there is no actual way to turn it completely off.

Did you try another setting altogether? Those seem to be the only two options that I have in my settings that appear to be related to the bluetooth ringer.

I was using my Blackberry 8310 for testing BTW. Not sure if that makes a difference but just in case.

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks Colin -
You attempted the same settings I have with the same results. There seems to be no way of turning the car ringer off. I prefer to turn it off because there are times where the passenger may be sleeping on long drives so I can have my actual phone on vibrate. I am using an IPhone but I don't believe the type of phone has anything to do with it. I will check with the dealer and post any updates.

Perhaps as a workaround for this incorrectly-implemented feature, on those occasions when you don't want to disturb others in the vehicle, you might turn off Bluetooth pairing.

BTW, I also found that while on a call, if I turn off the car, the call is dropped.

This is unlike the Motorola Bluetooth kit I installed in my previous car, that would stay active in the car handsfree, even after the ignition was turned off. It also had the option to unpair and turn off the unit, while allowing the call to continue on my handset.

I guess when it comes to Bluetooth integration, Infiniti has some work to do.

Cheers,
David

"I guess when it comes to Bluetooth integration, Infiniti has some work to do."

the problems don't stop at bluetooth. Infiniti should rip out the entire system and start over. They need to put in a SYNC system from Microsoft when Ford's exclusivity contract expires in Sept. The ipod only integration is insulting.

Hmm, the dropped call when the ignition is shut off is interesting. I'll give that a try to see what happens because it happened to me once by accident and I'm pretty sure my phone put the call on hold and didn't drop it... Perhaps it's phone dependent?

If it is dropping the call then I gather the engine shut off sends a "disconnect" signal to the phone... I know on my other bluetooth headsets, etc. that if they die (lose power) then the call goes on hold. That's how I'd expect it to behave.

Definitely a number of things that should get fixed in the system. Where is the proper place to complain about this stuff to Infiniti? The dealer isn't going to care (I don't think) because it's not that it doesn't work it's just it works poorly or in a frustrating fashion (only my opinion here).

Personally, I can deal with this stuff but the rolling lockout and the absolutely BRUTAL iPod scroll speed is killing me... Is it so hard to realize that I may want a passenger to be able to look at all the music on the Music Box when I'm driving? Why do I have to stop in order to access those "search" features... Grrr..

I don't think my phone "disconnects" when the engine is turned off?? I use the IPhone so what I traditionally do is turn it to phone mode prior to turning the engine off so I can just carry the conversation on without the person on the other end talking to nobody for a few seconds. Hmmm? I will have to not change it to see if it disconnects next time.

Regarding the specific functions on the gps and audio box that turn off once the car is rolling I can't believe they did not design it so that the passenger seat would sense weight and allow those functions to be used at that time. I am in complete agreement that MOST of my passengers are somewhat capable of operating those functions.

And if their engineers were smart enough to design it in that manner I promise I would NEVER just accidentally put a heavy item of any sort on the passenger seat in a manner in which to fool the seat into thinking someone was sitting there.

I'm with you Robert... How hard would that be. We know there's a weight sensor for the passenger airbag!

Your note made me laugh as I can picture everyone going to out to buy those virtual "security" dummies that people get in big cities to deter against car jackings, make it appear that your aren't alone in the car, etc.

I can picture us with Ted the dummy in the passenger's seat so we can use our GPS / Nav functions unhindered.

Wonder if Infiniti would sell it as a factory accessory?

Just an update note on the bluetooth disconnect. On my Blackberry 8310 it doesn't disconnect when I shut off the engine. In my case it just drops the bluetooth connection on the phone and returns it to the handset.

Not sure what the issue is in your case David. Maybe it depends on the phone or it's a bug in your car???

Thanks for checking, guys.

I'll have to try it again myself. I was pretty sure the call was dropped, but perhaps it was on hold and I didn't notice.

BTW, I have a Motorola SLVR L7.

David

I was able to shut off my car's ringer by using the voice recognition system (speaking) and not by manually going thru any scren menus. Start by hitting the phone button on the steering wheel to activate it ... say the neccesary commands to get into phone setup ... one of the (verbal) phone setup options is ringtone ... you can change it to one of several annoying variations or simply shut it off (using verbal commands).

David, nice work with the EX35 Forum, looks like you got a sweet thing going here!

On both my '09 Murano and '08 Armada, if you turn off the vehicle while on a call, it reverts to the phone, no dropped call, and same if you have the car off, and then turn on the vehicle.

NICE FORUM!
