Search, this was discussed a month or tow ago. Eng, its wiring harness, and a foot of wire after the connectors if you can, all the accessories, maf, intake pipe to maf, hoses, belts, everything you can grab that is attatched, mounts, with the rubber isolators if good(easy to make solid) computer, fuel pump is a good thing too, VIN #, and any history you can find in car, to chase down its maintance records. PULL A VALVE COVER OFF< If there is sludge in engine, don't get it.

For 60 bucks I'll take what ever I get. At the very least it will be a dummy block for mock up.

Ya its 50% off day at a local yard and they have a flat rate type of pricing. All engines are 120(every day price) so I was ready to get it at that price.  The year I don't know but it is a first gen Q45. I know a guy who owns a machine shop so it wont be to bad to rebuild. He decked my KA head as well as redoing the valve shims for free.

Well I got my engine home. It took me about 6 hours if you remove the break time. I'll post pics in a couple of hours.edit
I know this sounds stupid but how do you get the torque converter off? I have never dealt with an auto trans before so I am way in the dark.

$120 is the normal price I paid $1500 for my VH and that's a bargain over here

The converter is a P.I.T.A. the first time. You hav to pull starter, and go through that hole with a socket and extension, Vise Grips on ringgear, and it should work out, Be sure to pull the front covers and get a good look at its tensioners, and sludge check. What year?
Wait till you try the cam bearing caps.  worst ones I have ever dealt with. Must be cleaned first, and then hammer a (high quality) bit in there, forgot the size, but you will probably use a few bits to get them loosened.

The prod date is stamped on the engine. I believe you can see it (my motor is in the engine bay at the moment) when you look at the shiny part of the block at 12 o clock above the flexplate - you'll also see the engine code (VH45DE) stamped there as well. Nick.

WOW!!! You can buy a nice Q45 for less than $1000 here! I never really appreciated the cheap cost of the engine until you hear what others are paying. VHs here in the US seem to be sold at about the price of the material they're made of.

You can get to the torque converter bolts through the access space right under the oil pan. No need to remove the starter.

But to use the plate in a adapter sheid way, then you have to, the sheild goes around the starter hole, so it can't be removed. Or at least that is what I remember of doing it.

Ditto, that's how I did it on the 4 Q45's I've pulled motors out of, and that's how it's done in the FSM.

$60, good find. Thats a GREAT way to start a vh swap project!There are always a couple of G50's in the yard near my house but you have to wonder about the condition of the motors when the bodies are clean and wreck-free (how did it end up in the junkyard???). Hopefully the motor isn't trash but for $60 and pnp's 90 day exchange policy, you can't really complain.

It is a serious ***** getting those bolts out with the ring gear moving the whole time. If I had known I would have taken them off while it was still in the car.
  I've had this stupid rental cherry picker for going on three days know because I haven't had time to get the converter off so I can get the motor on the stand. I could have just bought the damn thing. Edit
I have also noticed that the oil filter tree is broken. Not having seen one before I didn't realize until I really got looking. At least it was only $60

Correction the prod date is stamped on the rear main seal cover - you'll need to take your flexplate out to see it. I just popped my flywheel off and saw mine again.Thanks,

Thats why I do it through the starter hole, the tension of the rachet's extension on the housing allows it to not rotate. Nick, pulled flywheel again?

Yep - The motor won't clear the engine stand with the flywheel on. I was taking the pan off to send that and the turbo housings to High Performance Coatings for the hipercoat extreme treatment. When the manis are done, they're going as well.....Thanks,
