Hello,

I am posting this issue from the Rogue forum in hopes some resident Nissan mechanics may be able to shed some light on this.

We have been getting many complaints from owners of 2008 Nissan Rogue's equipped with AWD... approx 15 to date. The problem has been described as follows:

A noticeable rattle, clicking, or popping noise when driving at slow speeds (<25mph). It is especially noticeable when decelerating. The problem seems to affect AWD models only as no FWD Rogue owners have reported this problem. The vehicles are fairly low mileage (<10,000mi). There is a very extensive thread in the Rogue forum regarding this:

Note: all Rogues come with a similar drivetrain using Nissan's latest QR25DE motor and RE0F10A CVT transmission. The only difference is the AWD system consisting of a transfer case , and rear diff with the AWD coupling/clutch. The setup is very similar to the Murano.

Many affected owners have taken their vehicles in for service. Some have had their transmission and transfer case replaced. In a couple of incidents, metal shavings and dark colored CVT and/or transfer case fluid were reported. Others were seemingly brushed off by Nissan and told that either the noise is normal or they are 'looking into the problem'. Nissan has not issued any Service Bulletins on this issue yet.

If anybody has some insight or access to any information regarding this noise issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

I do know that Murano's had an issue with the transfer case. I would make that my first stop. I can't recall the exact fix but I do know that the AWD Murano's had the same issue.

I have looked into this earlier,

According to bulletin NTB04129, the issue with the 2003-04 Murano was a damaged transfer case caused by using the AWD lock mode on dry pavement. The repair required replacement of the transfer case and the AWD control module. The fix was new AWD unit programming implemented on +2005 Murano's. One would assume the Rogue has similar programming.
