K I just rebuilt my Ka24de(out of a 240sx) and I can start it but I notice a leak from the back of the engine where it meets the transmission, the leak only comes down the passenger side of the motor and I'd say its quite severe(for example I'd say 5-10 drops in about a min while the car is running).

when i rebuilt the motor I replaced the rear main seal and tighten the retainer bolts down to factory spec(I think it was like 7-10 ft/lb). the weird thing is it only leaks when the motor is running, when the car is off there is no leak(besides the residual oil that is there from the leak which is maybe 1-2 drops).

Does this sound like I install my rear main seal wrong or is it just the oil pan?

hope its the pan, I'd try retightening the pan bolts IF a gasket was used...

as for the crank that sounds like the problem, my front was brand new(wasnt OEM ) and it leaked only when the motor was running

I know my crank had a bad groove, somehow it sealed for me

I did use a gasket, maybe I"ll try to tighten it down and see what happens.

but I agree its gonna be my main seal , and I thought I was done.

That could be it then. The only time I used a gasket on my oil pan, it leaked bad. I would try tightening it a little, if that doesn't work, take it off, scrape it clean and use RTV silicone to seal it. No gasket is needed for the oil pan.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try to tighten it down after work today and hopefully that works!

the one thing I did notice though that I forgot to mention was is the oil was not hot or anything even though the car was at operating temps which makes no sense to me.

So I tightened the oil pan and more than 80% of the leak stopped, bfore it was dropping 10 drops a min now its more like 2-3. Could it be just a oil pan or do you guys still think its the rear seal?

Hard to say man. I would get it on jackstands, get it running, and try to get under there with a flashlight and see if you can find where its leaking from.

if its the rear main seal it should sling oil everywhere and make your clutch slip. thats what my civic did
