Does anyone here know what size the rear differential plugs are. I've got a Craftsman Metric hex bit socket set. 8mm is too small but 10mm is too big. For whatever reason, they skipped 9mm. Craftsman doesn't even make a 9mm hex bit socket.

Before I go and order a single socket for approx. $20 after shipping and all that, which might not even be what I need, I thought I'd ask here first.

I'm assuming that all of the bolts are Metric on this car. Is it possible that this is an SAE sized plug?

I've checked the Service Manual, in my copy it only lists torque values of specific bolts. It does list specialty tools that may be needed for specific jobs, but as far as common fasteners, it probably assumes the technition will be able to figure out the sizes without a problem (and has a much larger set of tools than I).

I'm gonna check with some friends to see if maybe they have a 9mm hex bit socket that I could borrow to try it out.

Hmmm ... you are right. I could not find it either. A bit surprising, I suppose.

I know that it has been a few months since Andrew's quest for fresh fluid, but has anyone figured out what size hex bit goes in there? Is 9mm the size to use?

I was planning on doing it this Saturday...

I never found out. That project was shelved when the weather turned for the worse. I was planning on picking it up again in the spring. If you find anything out, please let everyone here know.
