On a 17x8, a 225/45 will fit very nice and square. Total diameter is just at 25" which is the biggest I personally go in regards to rolling diameter.A 215/45 checks in at about 1/2" shorter and will have a very mild stretch to it. The 235/40 on the other hand will be bulged out a little bit.Now you have 2 more things to consider. Different tires have different shoulders to them. If that makes any sense. Some tires have a very defined shoulder and generally look very square to begin with, while others have a somewhat undefined shoulder and are naturally rounded out. It's not a big deal, but sometimes that little bit of squareness/roundness is essential for clearance. Considering your chosen wheel sizes though, I would go with the 225/45, and pick up some 10mm spacers or so. On an 8" wide wheel, you can go down to a mid to high teens in offset with no rubbing or clearance issues. Should you, of course, decide you want a bit more flushness than the +35 offset provides.
