I was backing up in driveway very slowly when the car started to shutter ver hard and then stop. the engine is froze in place wont budge even a 16th of an in. by hand the oil is full and clean I read something about an engine brake that could have been trigered but thats all i know . please help . I did check to see if starter was jamed but its ok.

no wont move at all . if the timeing belt went when i backed up could that engage the engine brake?

It could be the timing chain. Make sure the battery is good. Pull the oil cap off and try to crank it over while you or someone else looks into the engine from the oil filler and watch for the camshafts to move. If they don't or only one moves, timing chain is toast.

"engine brake"?

Important to know whether an engine has a belt or a chain. Important to ask the years and mileage on the BELT.

If timing belt breaks there is a high probablity that the ENGINE WILL BREAK as the valves bend and jam from contact with piston..............there is no separate BRAKE per se, other than the rear parking cog in an AT.

Always be careful as the starter has enough torque to really trash a locked engine.
