I bought the car used with the battery in place already. Put 10k on it or more with no issues. Today on the expressway car freaks out. Tow to dealer and the diags show my IPDM is shorted. I was told if I had the OEM battery it would have been covered. SOunds weird to me, b/c the battery is considered an user replaceable part. Anyone ever heard of something stupid like this? Is this how Nissan/Infiniti treat their customers?

Wrong answer from the dealer.

Call them back and explain to thm that under Magnussun / Moss, they have to prove the aftermarket part caused the damage.

As the battery in question is identical in size, group, and CCA's to the OEM battery, it'll be tough to do.

Let them know you're discussing this on the largest Nissan forum in the world, and it's viewed quite frequently by NNA personnel.

Keep us posted, and welcome aboard!

The dealer has NOTHING to do with WARRANTY unless they sold you a brand new car then they have a little extra obligation which goes away after 1 year and 12k.

The dealer should ask Nissan [who your warranty is from] will they pay. If dealer refuses up to you to deal with Nissan and have them instruct dealer what to do. A dealer will always do what their largest customer says and that customer is Nissan Warranty Corp.

Too many people wrongly confuse the independent dealer with the manufacturer and that just leaves them frustrated and fighting with the wrong person.

Just curious, I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder w/69k miles and no warranty and my IPDM has gone south. This is what the Nissan dealer has told me after bringing it in for stalling/no starts and a variety of other problems that this componet brings when getting faulty. I was concerned that it's only a 2005 and componet like this goes out...is this normal or should I be concerned? It's going to cost me $500 and some change. Any information on this would be great. I noticed somebody above mentioned about a battery that may have contributed to this issue. I had to replace my factory battery (prior to the dealer but during the time of this faulty componet) due to it degrading and draining. Is this a known problem? If so, this should raise some concerns. Also, to what extent can I push the dealer to give me the exact cause for this IPDM failure? Something caused this failure and I would really like to hold them accountable for an answer to WHY this happened. Thank you all in advance for your help/responses.

$500 sounds a little steep for one .I would double check that if I were you .To answer your question about "cause" 9 out of 10 times it is the grounds on the chassis harness being corroded or loose .You''l find one on the inner passenger engine compartment just in front of the ipdm. Then there are three on the driver side rad support about half way down facing the engine .All four are 10mm and easily accesible .You see alot of these on Titans,Armadas and Xterras.Other causes are the same ,loose connections ,just harder to track down .If I remember right it only pays 3/10s to replace one and I'm not sure on the diag pay but I'm sure that and $180 for the part doesnt equal $500.Hope this helps and yes they should look into issuing a campaign for the ipdm's at least in the titans as I usually do one a week and it has always been the grounds on the harness
