| Quote, originally posted by DALAZ_68 » | | so i get in my car and turn the ign, i hear the typical click, but i dont hear any cranking, from what i remember, that usually means starter, i turn the key again, and it finally clicks and i go... so i need a starter now from what ive researched the FWD CA18 starter is diff and so is the CA16...the shapes wont clear the plenum reinforcements
so seeing as how im in Los Angeles, whats my best choice...im hoping to find a new/remanufactured one not used, so i wont have to deal with this again
| Get it rebuilt or get a 2nd used for insurance and still get yours rebuilt. Dee
Who's selling their CA18 next ? Forged pistons are no insurance for ignorance . Spending money foolishly doesn't equate to a high hp car . Being cheap all the time equates to a waste of time And lastly, I'm not done; for I've only just begun, so stay tuned Dee

I was thinking about this the other too. My starter is fine but just wondering what I'll do if it went bad....Is rebuilding the only option?

The FWD CA18DE fits just one of the holes isnt thread you'll need to get a long bolt and put a nut. You could probably helicoil the hole.

S12's starters won't work.....ca20 or ca18, from what I remember reading. I never compared my ca18et starter with my ca-det starter, so I don't know for sure. The flywheels are different though

I'll still put my 2 cents even though this post is pretty much dead. Right now I'm using a s12 starter from an 86 200sx and I haven't had any problems with it. there are 2 styles that they came with a direct drive and offset gear reduction starter. The direct drive is the one I have and it bolts and fits the stock location. No modification needed.

Ca20 or ca18et? Either way thats good to know. Still weird because I have used both type of starters on my old ca18et.

I went throught this PITA as well. The part number that will work (because there are about 4 different 1.8 liter nissan engines) is N16900. That is a brand new New Advantage Starter. I think I bought it for about $140-$160 from http://www.overnightautoparts.com or something like that. The money was really worth it considering it took about three other test fits to get the one that worked. Like what was said before- you need to use a nut on one of the holes that does not come threaded like the stock one. Good luck if you are going to do a rebuild- my experience shows that no-one is around to do starter rebuilds. If you find one, it will almost be as much money as a new part.
