Took the car for a drive today. Does have a problem. It is running rich. To get it started I have to take the vacuum off the FPR and then after it is running I can connect it and rev/drive it. When driving it as soon as I shift to second it falls on its face. If i hold in the clutch and let it coast for a second I can slowly give it gas. The plugs look like they were in a coal mine fire. I am about 99% sure I don't have boost leaks. My most likely problem is the MAF. I have stock turbo and waste gate. FPR with the pressure set at 42psi vac off and it is 35 with the vac on. It does this cold so I don't think it is the O2.

P.s. anyone have a known good series 1 maf?

I'm assuming you've set tps and base timing..Do you have a wideband? Are those injectors stock?

Clean car! Very nice detail work

My best guestimate is that the timing is close (it will not idle below 2000rpm)--IACV could be a factor but I don't think it would run as rich as it does. TPS is spot on. The injectors/ECU is stock and no I don't have a wide band.

hm.. 2000 rpm is a difficult place to time..

base timing is at 15deg.. so arount 2k rpm to account for timing advance it should be at roughly 20deg or so i would imagine.

You need to fix the aicv first then reset timing. Then check your maf

Thanks. I'm on the look out for a MAF and IACV (at least it is easy to get to) I'm sure the Timing is in the ball park based on where it is at @ 2000 rpm.

It is kinda hard to make out in the picture but I had the manifold and the valve covers powdercoated wrinkle black.

again, are you running stock injectors? And they might be leaking (regardless stock or not). Just a guess.

Engine looks great. I like what you did with it.

Boost leak check your system as well.

And if you need a MAF just shoot me an email.

You can back probe the tps (middle pin) and at fully closed the output voltage should be .4 to .5v according to the FSM. I have the Blazt/consult hooked up so I can see what the ecu sees to set mine. My car just wants to run rich so hopefully the MAF will fix it.

I'm pretty sure the humps have to do with the PCV baffling in the valve covers along with the cam lobe covers on the 5 & 6 cylinders. Same with the RB26 except the humps extend further forwards. Not sure of how it all works together or the engineering behind it, but maybe someone else can fill that part in.

So made some progress this weekend. Turns out my Fuel pressure gage on the FPR was LYING to me---- rat bastard!!!! Put on my fuel pressure tester and WOW it was a wonder it would even run with pressure that high. So now IT RUNS like a raped ape!!! YIPPY So Now The only real problem is that It idles too high (32-3500rpm)

MY TPS is Spot on according to FSM. Throttle plate is all the way closed. The only thing left is IACV (great more money I can piss away)

Except for the high Idle it runs good.

Works just like a baffled catch can, to seperate as much oil from the blow by gas as possible, so when it vents through the PCV you're not getting an overwelming amount of oil back into your intake stream.

If you look at the underside of the 26 covers you'll notice the difference between, R32/R33, R34, Nismo, and Mine's.

BTW, Matt your Email is blocking and sending back all my emails to you.

Stock Brakes are a mistake with this motor!!!

Just about have all the bugs worked out. Blocked off the hose to The IACV/AAC and it idles now (with the throttle plate cracked) So I have to figure out if it is the IACV or the Aux Air valve. I havn't checked wiring to either so I'll do that tomorrow.

stock brakes with any motor is a mistake in these cars. Thats of course, unless you beef things up with some killer pads, rotors, fuild and lines. Then you got a winner.

Just get a volt/ohm meter and check the values on the 2 sensors. you'll narrow it down pretty quick that way.

I must be missing something!!!! I keep reading that the fuel pressure should be around 35 psi w/ vac at idle and around 42 w/ vac off. Is this right??????????????

I can't get it to run right above 20psi--sound low??? It doesn't run lean. ever!! even under load. Infact at 20psi it runs AWSOME. I have walbro pump stock injectors and Saard FPR. In fact 10-15psi will also run fine???
