My friend just got and '04 G coup and his headlamps look something like a greek tragedy. I told him I'd help him clean them because I had a good idea on how to do it. But, I don't want to do it from total recall and I knew I saw a write up on how to clean the headlamps, but now I can't find it

I've been searching the forums for the past two days, so if anybody could just point me in the right direction that be great...

thanks

You want to remove the whole clear plastic cover? WHY?

Unless water or smoke got in there, I'd STAY THE F*&% OUT of there.

My understanding is that the inside is coated and once you touch it, it's a PITA to completely clean.

In order to get it off, you have to pull off your bumper and remove your headlight, then use a heat gun or the oven to melt the silicone adhesive and then do it all in reverse to get it back together.

Go the the Mod database, then look for the Halo...

The write up is for something completely different, but it gets the headlights off and the lenses off too.

I think search engines were made for only a small subsection of the population. Which means the programmers FAIL.

Many of folks have taken their headlights apart to A: either clean them or B: to paint the chrome housing. Apparently its not as bad as the instructions make it out to be. I would definitely have someone around that has first hand experience though.

Just do the sanding and plastix first. If he is still unhappy, then he can go buy new headlights.

PlastX would clean it. All he needs is an outside cleaning I believe. I would start with the outside part and if it is still not good then try the inside part.

I've used 3M Plastic Cleaner (39017) before on a couple of cars and it did great! It does have ingredients that can cause cancer, so you know it's strong!!

I bought this package at advance auto parts to restore fogged up lights, and it worked out perfect. Came with 1500 and 4000 grit sand paper and some polish compounds. Only for 20$ and i think it works for 2 cars.
