Does anybody else have this problem...?

I can't seem to work for incompetent people. I lose respect for them very quickly, then start to take over the show. At that time, they get mad and all hell breaks loose.

The Scenario-

I just applied for a seemingly "perfect" job. They want someone who can do almost everything or is willing to learn how to do everything. I LOVE THAT. Never a dull moment and I always end up on top.

So I get a reply back from the guy about 20 mins later asking me to call him. I do and realize that he is disorganized, cheap, and as eloquent as a misfiring VQ.

Update- Just learned that he is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who promotes Euthanasia...Now I'm intrigued again.

I still have an "Alpha Complex" if you will. It is EXTREMELY applicable with my current "supervisor". I seem to respect authority more when it is responsible, logical, and comes across as an authority... not a wal-mart sales associate.

Thanks for reading. Mods, please delete before thinking about sending to GC.

Very interesting! Be careful with psychiatrists (no pun intended) . You may one day be taking a short nap at work, and realize that you have been euthanized, and may never return from that nap (just kiddng).

Seriously, I once worked with Clinical Psychiatrists and i couldn't tell the difference between the patient and the Psychiatrist (just my experience). And, they are extremely intelligent.

There's a difference between True Alphas and people with an Alpha Complex.

One of them gets their a$$ kicked a lot.

SO, what happened? Where's the venting?

That is why I like my current job. It's a very militant atmosphere. There is a chain of command. I am rather high on that chain also, which makes it a lot nicer for me.

I can't stand morons who are in management/supervisory positions. I work at a government institution and it's mind boggling to see how many 10, 15, 25 year service awards are given to lazy SOBs who don't do their job.

One of those just recently extended her stay at some sort of "job related event" and then took two weeks vacation which means she got a 3 or 4 week vacation on company time and the University is probably footing the bill for most of her expenses while at the "job related event".

Same goes for my immediate supervisor. I didn't realize how many people really NEED Zoloft, prozac...etc. When things get stressful, she doesn't take it in stride, she blows up and wants things done her way...well sorry, Charlie, but things don't work that way. If I'm getting things done in a more efficient manner than you, then it's your job as a supervisor to shut you F#*$ing trap and LEARN, not to say "Well, that's not the way I do things. You should really try my way, because it has 18 more steps."

I won't claim to be perfect by any means, but I'll be damned if I don't try to be better than most. This psychiatrist has an organization devoted to euthanasia...specifically: refusing food or water as a means of hastening death.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see a loved one suffer, but damn...2 websites, a 501(c)? non-profit organization and membership? Plus a book, phone consultation service, audio clips, video clips, information on using a proxy for your final decisions.

It was very morbid...and I'm supposedly negative, so I should have fit right in.

I might have to follow my mother's advice and get another business license. I have a hard time working with incompetent people. I do much better when I'm in charge of them so I can yell at them and ask them why they're being stupid.

There...I feel better now....I just need to figure out how to be independently wealthy soon, so Crystal and I can move down to Carlsbad...Anybody need a personal chef/mechanic/graphic designer/entrepreneur/bowler?

On a happier note, glad you can vent here - It's better than an expensive therapist!

Whats wrong with general chat ? LOL

That job sounds interesting... I like being the boss too even when I'm not. Its always good to have people who can take control of a situation and fix problems as they arrise! Some managers feel challenged by employees who can think and act for themselves.

Do I have to beat them up in order to be an Alpha, or just get them to do what I want out of pure fear?

Better to find a way to co-exist with the stupid, than to sell your soul for Alpha-hood.

My lack of "Alpha-hood" must stem from my distaste for most beer. I'm better with a top-shelf margarita or some vodka... X-rated FTW!!!

Nice venting! I work with a few of these types of people too. Used to have a boss who was also that way. Well, the world is filled with a-holes, and psychos. You can never get rid of them---they are there to test every fibre of your person. You must learn to allow a-holes to hang themselves.

I really think your frustration comes from the fact that you care too much and your caring nature is actually getting the better of you, because you want to see things get done the right way, and because you don't want to see your office or boss fail. This is an unconscious behavior for caring people.

So, for once, you must practice not to care about your job or the boss's ineptitude. If you want to be free of this quagmire, you must set the situation free. Sooner than later, your boss will dig their own careeer grave and place themselves with their own hands inside their own professional casket. But this will only happen, if you learn to stop caring for a small while.

The only beers I truly like are red ales (Killians), darker beers, and Sam Adams. Rum and coke, SoCo and lime, Purple Rains in a fishbowl, sangria, and what's called a Crack Pipe are among my favorites. Me and vodka haven't been the best of friends, but we're getting better. We had a large disagreement a few years ago...I wanted it to stay down, it wanted to come up...it won, big time.

I hear you though on the university job, but I'll vent for a slightly different reason. I was a supervisor while in school for a university department and always heard complaints about higher ups not doing their job from low totem pole full timers, which got really annoying to be honest. Some of it was true, but a lot of it was just not understanding. If someone was gone for 2.5 hours for lunch, they couldn't conceive that it included lunch and a meeting outside of the building, which, 95% of the time was the case. The one they complained about the most was the director for the program that generates the most money in the department outside of membership fees. Little did they know or want to know that she had to be at other facilities the department has in order to do business. There were a lot of other complaints that were misguided, but I'm just going to leave it at that for now.

I appreciate your POV, but I'm a pretty thorough person. When I say people aren't doing their jobs, I mean it.

The grounds supervisor for our area has been here over 15 years and can't get us a lightbulb without AT LEAST 3 requests. He does, however, have the time to sit around shooting the bull with my boss and wasting our time when we have work to do.

I've been a supervisor before. I'm well aware of the inherent differences, but self-management is a virtue many don't have.

Jacko,

Thanks for the insight. I don't think my boss or any of the other incompetents here will dig their own grave simply because of the nature of the organization, but I will take your suggestion to heart.

Nice venting and i know what you mean!

I hate to work with stupid people..

But i love stupid people! It makes my life a lot easier because i am so much smarter than them... You know what I am talking about! Like if I apply for a job and a stupid person does too, well we all know i would get the position lol.

I wish more and more people would drop out of College... That would make my Degree worth more money to me! also give me more Job security!

But if we got rid of them the Economy would go right down the drain like the rest of this country is right now with the Gas at 4 bux a gallon!

Just my .02

Glad to hear you're paying $.80 less per gallon than me...oh and what's that? Your gas isn't as water down as mine? *High five!*

I think the problem is that many of the stupid people are the ones getting jobs, not me. I applied at Starbucks 3 times right out of highschool with about 4 years of work experience (not related to starbucks) and they didn't hire me. I believe it's because I wasn't feminine enough (go find a super masculine male starbucks worker. I'll see you in 6 months)

Had the same problem with other jobs and so has my wife. I think personality has a lot to do with it (we're both only children and are better than everybody else ) I also think that managers are scared to hire people who will advance too quickly.

If you're so friggin' smart, why aren't you in the management position? If you ARE so friggin' smart-maybe they aren't so dumb for hiring you. Give yourself some credit. Perhaps with enough time and a better attitude toward authority they will promote you.If you don't want to be surrounded by laziness and nepotism, get out of government sector jobs.

I actually have held management positions. I resigned because I couldn't handle working that part time and this job full time.

They're dumbness come into play when they tie my hands and make me sit around on NICO all day.

My position has NO room for promotion. I'm a graphic designer in an office where my supervisor has NO design background. Everything she does looks like Lisa Frank. We're designing for college students and parents and she's putting bright colored overlapping circles on everything.

She started as a leasing agent and when she was going to quit, one of the new upper management friends of hers asked her to stay and asked her what she wanted to do. She brags about how she "wrote her position".

And like Tampa said, the idiots are everywhere.
