I Attempted to hook up the DVI interface on my graphics card up to the new Sharp 19" LCD HDTV I got yesterday, and all seemed to be well (for about 30 seconds).

As soon as I got all the resolution and HD settings correct for running the HDTV as the second monitor, I attempted to play an HD movie that I had on my desktop.

All of a sudden, the screen started flickering violently between a tiled multi-screen of the movie image back to the full screen image. I have checked every setting I can think of to remedy this issue and no change!

Help pls, cause I hate not watching my Naruto in HD

What TV model#? What was the HD movie source (any copy protections, etc?)? What progrtam are you trying to use to run the movie?

Its a SHARP 19" Model # LC19??25?? something or other, the free Verizon deal.

It happens with ANY moving image, regardless of file type or whatever, running on Windows Media 10 with all necessary codecs installed AFAIK...

I didn't try a different program yet tho. Let's assume that the program isn't the issue for a min, what could it be? An interlacing problem?

It could be just about anything. So I won't assume anything. Like any kind of troubleshooting, you methodically eliminate each possible problem until you find it. Somethings are easier to rule out than others and some are hard to rule out unbless you have plenty of other equitment to try it on. So lets try and work with what you can do. Try another video. That's generally going to be a bit easier.

And I'll ask again, what is the HD movie source?

Try and find the specific TV model# as well. It might make a difference here.

It could be an interlacing issue, but then I would think it would have issues all the time, not just with moving images...

Try replacing your GFX card with one made within the past 5 years... lol Other than the "FX" series the "MX" series was the 2nd sh*ttiest chipsets Nvidia had to offer...

I think pflicht is being a little roug but...

You might want to try the s-video out on the card to see what happens. I am not really up on HDMI but I dont think your card will support it. The product information does say HDTV ready but it kinda depends.

Might want to try a different media player as well.

Yeah, I considered posting the same thing but restrained myself.

The GeForce 4 MX cards were garbage.

Honestly, datt, you'll be able to find an upgrade from that POS for dirt cheap. Just do that. You deserve a lot of credit for tolerating a GeForce 4 MX card this long. I was sick of them back in 2002.

Is it PCI? Anyway, I have a PCI video card sitting around that I'm not using. ATI x1300 I think? x1600? I'd have to look.

Anyway, what HD movie source are you using? Last I knew you needed DirectX 10 to play HDMI from HD-DVD and BR sources. In which case, you'd also need Vista since XP doesn't support DirectX 10...And you'd need a better video card than I have since it doesn't support DirectX10 either.

However, if you know of a way to get XP to support directX 10, you may be able to get something to work.

What resolution are you trying to run at?

Have you tried VLC player?...though it requires a better vid card than what you have or else your picture will just stop periodically while the sound continues to play.

*edit* Ok I'm trying to find that Direct-x 10 thing and now I can't find anything on it. You may be ok with XP or XP-MCE and a vid card that doesn't support D-10. I don't know, hopefully someone chimes in that uses their PC as an HTPC.

If you are low on money try this card, assuming your mobo can handle 8x AGP

Nah, its AGP.

Its a DVI-D output on the video card, I use a HDMI to DVI conversion cable. I actually got it to run OK if I just have the card share the desktop between the monitors and run the LCD HD screen as the main monitor. I don't seem to have any issues running it that way but I would love to be able to have the desktop and icons on one side and the movies on the other side rather than one huge shared desktop. Oh well.

I don't have any HD-DVD players, only HD files from DL, so no issue there as well.

1216x684 For some reason, there are no normal resolutions for my monitor probably given that the driver that Microsoft has for it (Plug and Play monitor) is the only thing available for it.

Its not a player issue. I have to run work stuff on here, an I deal with codecs you probably haven't even heard of, so I can play anything I want and not have a issue with it. Not trying to be snooty, but I do stuff with PAL and other formats on a daily basis, I have a very capable player that I forget the name of. Thanks!

Maybe, just maybe. I probably only have AGP 4X tho. Also, those internet site always have a shipping fee and some other crap set up to charge me, so no thanks. I hate using credit online also. I'm an old fashioned store shopper i guess

...um, seriously, I don't need another player. Mine does everything there is. Remember, I work in the video field for international security, so we have everything. I mean EVERYTHING.

...except a great video card, lol.

I used Newegg to buy every part for the computer I'm typing this on almost 5 years ago. They have been around for a long time and do a great job, and do a great job on RMA's if it comes to that.

I was going to mention them as well in my post, they are also a great site. I think I may use TD to upgrade my system. I LOVE their combo packages, that's a great idea. I wish more sites would do that.
