The dude I bought my Q from broke his sunroof switch, bought a new one and broke that one too. He broke the two little nubs where the switch is supposed to attach. I tried to jam the switch in the little slot but figured there was no way to make it work and threw it in the glovebox.
The other day I was bored and decided to really check out what was wrong with the switch. I concluded that there was no way to get the switch to stay out without some sort of bracing on either side. It has to pivot so I couldn't just glue it on. Hmmm...
I stuck a paper clip in the hole on the side of the switch - no, too small. How about a coat hanger? Perfect fit. I drilled two small holes in the sunroof switch assembly, bent and cut the piece of hanger to size and jammed it together and...it didn't fit. The hanger pieces were hanging down too low and preventing the assembly from being screwed to the body. So I notched out some grooves with a sharp knife and file. OK that worked.
I screw it together, install it and it works. It's a little bit touchy, you have to push it in the right spot but my sunroof works again. Awesome. If only I was this adept at changing valve cover gaskets...
in my post i forgot to add i swapped out the paper clip for a heavier piece of round metal. not as big as a coat hanger but stronger than the paper clip.

I love redneck engineering and ingenuity!
It's nice to see someone come up with a simple repair to a recurrent problem. Nothing like some JBweld and duct tape.
