1. What are the specific drivers in question? What hardware are those drivers intended for?

2. What specific error messages are you seeing? What symptoms indicate a failure on installing them?

3. What operating system (I am assuming Windows XP SP1)?

I assume it is an Acer notebook, of course.

FWIW, I suspect the easiest way would be to start with the original installation CD's or DVD's that the notebook may have come with for a re-install. This is often sent out with the notebooks. Does your brother have those handy? You might also be able to buy them from Acer ... slim chance if the notebook is too old, but you never know.

One lesson: when you buy laptops, it is VERY important to get and keep the original installation disks. Often, if you have to rebuild the system, stock Windows CD's or DVD's do not work, since they don't have the customized drivers from the notebook vendor.

Quick solution: Get Vista the F uck off your laptop d00d. Its a voraciously ram hungry and you are seeing another great side effect: drivers not working when they should. "downgrade" to XP and I am almost posative you will have an easier time.
