Is your new drive a Seagate? They make a very, very nice program (available on their web site) for "moving" from one disk to another. I just did it to my son's computer - changed from a 40GB disk to a 500GB disk ... ruuning Vista - and it went incredibly smoothly!
I do not know if this Seagate program will work on a non-Seagate replacement drive! But, may do no harm in trying (please back up on to some other media first regardless!!)!
Goto
http://www.seagate.com, under the Support page, under the downloads link, get the program called DiscWizard and see if this works for you. It has all kinds of options to re-partition the new disk, etc., etc., etc. Read the instructions carefully before you get started to see what you can do. Of course, if one particular mechanism does not work the way you expected ... just do it again!
