I've been looking for a cargo box that fits on the factory roof rack/crossbars. The Thule and Yakima products are pricey and (usually) require additional hardware or removing the crossbars. I found the Sears X-Cargo Sport 20 (made by Thule) for $199.99 at Sears. Fits on my setup. Easy to install/lightweight/lock included along with all necessary hardware. One caveat, I had to unscrew the antennae mast to install it. Reception is reduced for AM/FM but XM is not degraded at all. I listen to XM almost exclusively along with cd's/mp3 cd's and ipod so no big deal for me.

Man that looks sweet! Makes me wish I went with a darker color vehicle. After years of dark colors and black I went with white. Anyhow, looks like you drilled your roof rack cross bars? Am I correct? If so, why? My clamps mount right over the bars and into the box without any problems.

I did not drill thru my bars. As you can see in photo 3, the clamps are under the rail and extend into the box where they are screwed down on the inside of the box in photo 5.

So do you notice a lot of wind noise, and have you noticed any reduction in gas mileage? It looks like a very large bin, do you know what the capacity is, I imagine it's at least 20 cubic feet? I'm thinking about getting one from Sears when I head down to the States, Sears Canada doesn't seem to carry them.

Here are some pics of a simple modification to add a thule fairing to an Xpedition cargo basket. Everything fits perfectly. Fairing sits about an inch in front of moonroof so it also serves as a wind deflector. P.S. Hope the pics load properly.

I haven't driven with it on yet. I'm leaving for vacation soon and it'll get a good test. I'll let you know how it goes with the mileage/wind noise when I return. It holds 20 Cu Ft.

First leg of the vacation is over. 26.5 mpg at 65mph on a 4 hour drive. Wind noise was negligible. I'm sure the 'sail' reduced my mpg somewhat but this thing holds a ton of luggage. Very happy with this purchase. Highly recommended.

Great photos and info. The Mount looks great! I noticed your roof rack, it's one I have seen on ebay. I am thinking of purchasing one and wanted to know how you like it. It's not Thule or Yakima but I like the price and the look... Any feedback would be helpful. Many Thanks... The Rogue looks great!

The rack is great. I've had no problems at all with it. I think it looks better than the M.O.A.B. by Thule. Very simple install. I am in the process of filling the gap between the bottom of the rack and the top of the fairing. I will post some pics when done.

Hey I just got the same base rack as you and unloaded it makes a crazy "wooooooo" sound at highspeeds. I can't believe how loud it is, but I'm hoping that once I mount a roof box on it the noise will pretty much disappear. Do you notice any noise from your set up?

Also, how is your rack holding up against moisture? The lock cores seem kinda cheap and I'm wondering if it's smart to leave this rack on my Rogue all the time, or possibly I'll keep it off except for when I actually need it, to avoid corrosion. Thanks.

I would invest in a fairing also with the cargo box. I have no noise problems at all. Without the fairing I get the same noise you mentioned.

As far as locks go I'm able to keep my rogue garage kept so weather isn't as much of an issue. Good luck with things.

I'm still looking for a roof top box, and I was going to stay away from a rear opening box because it seemed like it would be awkward to open/close and load. What has your experience been like with the rear opening design?

I really would have preferred to use the factory low-profile cross bars to mount a box, but it is so dissappointing to learn that they are fixed in place, and you can't reposition them to various locations along the main rails. So I went with the generic Thule rack but if you are just hauling a roof box and nothing else, the Nissan cross bars would be much better, however when shopping for roof boxes it is very difficult to determine what the required spacing is for the cross bars - i.e. will the factory bars be compatible with the box? Also I don't like the long boxes because then you have to remove the radio antenna. Anyway, I'm having a rough time figuring out what to do because I really need the extra capacity.

The rear loading is not a problem and you can load shorter items in it from the sides."I'm only 5'6" so I have to pack a folding step stool in the car. It doesn't take up much space as it folds flat but it is essential if I want to reach the box. This box fits fine on the factory rails (compatible) and Sears does offer a smaller box that will most likely not impede the antenna. It's about a foot less in length and holds 13 cu. ft. instead of 20. You may find it for less online. I believe it's the same design as mine and should fit just fine on the factory rails. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_1...mv=rr

I too picked up the same base rack system. Yes it's very noisy at highway speed and not sure how well it will hold up, but at 1/3 the price of Thule you can't go wrong. Anyway I ordered the Fairing and will post a follow up once I mount it...

Great info on cargo box for Rogue. Pictures help also. Thanks for taking the time to do this. One more question, have you had any issues with water getting in?
Thanks, Sarge

Hey all! Another option with pics to add to this discussion...
Image

Got the factory rails and a Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box.
http://www.thule.com/en-US/US/Products/ ... antis-1600

We averaged ~23 mpg over 1500+ miles at ~75 mph avg on our 2012 summer trip. Posted pics for reference... very happy with the choice. Easy fit, perfect size!

Lift gate shot--tight fit but no rubbing when raised. Kudos to Thule for indicating which carriers actually fit the Rogue! BTW, had to remove (unscrew) the sat antenna... no reception issues except brief interruptions in deep valleys; otherwise, very good reception.

Claws in the unlocked position. Easy to slide internal tabs made this a snap to install. Rear tabs are at the far aft rail position to fit.

Reply if you've got any questions.

Thanks, I'm working on getting more wider wheels and a rear spoiler...Too bad there isn't a nice front bumper to replace the factory one.
