Car: '05 g35 coupe - some day with a ls swap

Post

Well im a proud owner of a '05 g35 coupe. I love my car. It has 3in nismo CAI, eibach sways and sportline springs, stainless clutch/brake lines, reflash ecu, 3pc. UR pulleys, headers, 2.5in downpipes, stillen torque damper/master brake cylinder, and a small train horn tucked under the front bumper. I know thats nuts but you should see the people when i drift a 90deg turn at an intersection and hit that horn right at the end its awesome. As of late I have noticed alot of people talking about V8 swaps into g/z's. Thats sick!!!!! I want to upgrade my audio system and the rest of my suspension but I don't want to do anything more to the engine since I heard of this. I thought about the greddyTT but with 5k I can have a V8 and have it installed. It would be much better money wise and it would be reliable. Engine size I know will be no problem but hooking it up with the VQ transmission seems to be difficult to research for. I heard that the 350Z maxxis drift droptop has a 5.6 titan motor with a custom one off adapter plate done by LS Automotive to connect it to the VQ transmission. Man I would love to drop that in the moment my car does anythign stupid. Please if anyone out there knows more than me please share the info. I really love my car and want to keep it for a long time and want to have as much fun as possible. Thanks for any help I get.

p.s. first time here in the forum.

p.s.s. If anyone can help me buy some Nissan front and rear brake calipers from a skyline or 300zx with the nissan printed on it it would be appreciated. I want to keep my car nissan as possible. I just bought a nismo shift knob and waiting for a nismo steering wheel that i found on ebay and on ebay i also found nismo racing seats with 4pt harness in nismo too. You get the idea....

But then you could not drive it on the street, as the Clean Air Act prohibits swapping in a larger displacement engine as that creates more idle and cruise emissions.

well i will contest that with a couple of things : 1. people put larger engines cars that don't originally come with such displacement all the time.

2. I live in florida where there is no emissions control hence forth the clean air act does not apply to anyone in florida. they did away with that about 10yrs ago.

now i appreciate your comment, but im not lookin for anyone to stop me from what im tryin to do here. either help or don't i say. have a nice day.

1. people shoot other people all the time too, whats your point?

2.Florida may not do emissions testing{currently} however there ARE federal{USA} laws regarding emissions tampering, with huge penalties if caught

Young, dumb, and full of -um is no way to go thru life. Only wanting to hear advice to further your ignorance...is ignorant!

Put your big girl pants on and read up before you create a undrivable car that is banned from being registered and tagged to utilize on the road.

Wow. Not nice.

Now, to the OP. I really don't think that dropping the 5.6 into the G35 is possible without MAJOR modifications and a hell of a lot more money than its worth. Just my opinion. Have you compared the differences between the two engines? Parts might need to be relocated, things rerouted. Then you'd have to either have a custom ECU done or locate one from an Armada/QX56 (good luck finding that at the junkyard) and pay through the nose for it. Did you think about a new radiator? The OEM one will be puny in consideration of the size and cooling needs of the larger engine. Will it even fit in the G's engine bay?

As far as getting the car tagged and whatnot, I'm not a pro when it comes to Florida laws (which I hear are almost non-existent) but in Jersey if one was to undertake a job like that, you can kiss free state inspection goodbye and you'd have to pay a private inspection place $70+ depending on what needs to pass.

Now. The DOT I believe can catch you as they do with illegal Skylines. If you do the swap, I don't know how they could tell unless you just obviously looked like a transgressor.

I don't think it can happen. And what's the point? At the end of the day, you'll just have really heavy front end, possibly ruined suspension, and who knows what else.

Take the $5k you've got and turbo it. Or put it away and save for unforeseen repairs and preventative maintenance.

thank GOD, i live in florida, well we might get shot sooner than getting emissions back, and if they do, we all are F*cK , all i gotta say, is i love Florida, and F*cK the CAT converter.

In a few years many will be looking to swap in an I4 of 2-2.5 liter displacement to gain the 25% increase in MPG at idle and cruise.

One can only wonder what the added weight of VH or VK would do to the front end and handling.

The VK56DE is definitely a truck engine. TopSecret put a twin turbo VK45DE into a V35. Search for it on the web.

actually there really is not that much difference in the weight. honestly its about 50-75lbs. relocate the battery, carbon fiber hood, quarter panels, front bumper and u should be good actually. AITracing.com has alot of carbon fiber parts and other lightweight products for alot of imports. check it out. have a good one.

Guess what guys nissan is seriously considering making and awd 430hp v8 350z. They're gonna call it the 450z from the vh45 v8 motor from the luxury line. Even nissan can see that alot of people like the idea of a v8 g/z.... VICTORY IS MINE!!!!!!!!!!!

A Pyrrhic victory at best. Above is a link to a VK56DE in a 350 Z. Am I impressed? Not in the least. I think the car looks crappily uncomfortable. Seeing as I'm not looking to have my car featured as an oddity in some magazine, I really don't care much for it.
gregfarz78 wrote:vq35de is 330lbs without trans

this is not my pic I found it on the web
The VK56DE weighs a bit more.
ARGAMEMENON wrote:That weight figure (228kg) was for the VK56. It comes out to about out 511 pounds, which sounds about right with accesories. I'm having a hard time finding the site, but it involved a 700+ hp VK56 in a test truck....A guy was able to get some info as they were testing at a local track... and it had a link to an actual Nissan engineering article describing the why's and how's of the 56, comparing it to the 45. I'll keep looking....

Can you copy off some more info from the FSM? I'm very interested.
There seems to be a 181 lb difference between the two. A far cry from the stated 50-75.

Secondly, quality carbon fiber isn't cheap.

Hey, it's your money. I'd just feel that I'd be doing the board a disservice in failing to warn you against a foolish enterprise.

Although it isn't very practical i do get a little giddy when i think about a v8 in a g35. Me personally would like a LS1 or LS2.

I agree a turbo or supercharger set up will be more cost affective. Not to mention more time and stress affective.

Ignore the nay-sayers and the tree huggers/humpers.

If you want a V8, get a V8.

If you want a V12, get a V12.

Hell, if you want a Bell/Rolls Royce 250/T63, get it.

Its your car, your cash, and whatever legal ramifications that come about from it are your responsibility.

Hmmm.

Mixed thoughts here.

My G, when it dies, will be the recipient of an LSx swap. No question, that's the route for reliable fat power.

AZ has the second-most restrictive emissions laws in the US, and as long as your car passed sniffer, equipment and OBD I / II inspection, it passes.

Then again, I have classic / collectible / exotic insurance on most of mine, so they're exempt.

I've given the thought also towards a 2jz swap or even a smaller displacement and a huge turbo like an ka24 stroked with a turbo strapped to it or an sr20det stroked. but with the v8 and a proper controller you can switch from performance setting to economy and between reg or premium gas at a touch of a button. i think that all of these ideas are great personally. I'm still leaning towards the v8 but only waiting until the motor gives out.

You can switch between premium and regular gas at the flip of a switch? running two gas tanks are we?

And to switch between performance and economy on any motor is simply....don't depress the go pedal too much....boom instant economy.

hey if you wanna run two tanks be my guest. anyone else would have understood that you can run regular gas day to day during the week and on the weekend fill'er up with premium. And for those who do not know that much about v8's you can get a number of plug in hand held controllers and switch to whatever pre-programmed or custom program on the fly.

You can also run regular with the G, you just get less performance.

And yes I know there are handheld tuners out there for V8's...and there are for V6's, flat 6's, I6's, I4's..........

The only people that REALLY use those on the fly tuners that I know of, are diesel guys.....most people who run a SBC or something along those lines just....don't push the gas pedal down as hard...............................................................................................
