Posted the same thread in the Mechanic section.

I just had a quote to install the rear bumper protector pad: $45 to buy the pad, $105 to install it.

I opted to buy the pad and install it myself and the service rep said dont forget to prep it.

How do I prep the bumper and pad? What adhesive should I use?

The rear bumper protector is very easy to install. It has 3M sticky tape you just peal off and stick. To prep the bumper, wipe the area down with isopropyl alcohol, dry it off and stick....

Only paid $80.00 to get the protector and have it installed at the dealer.

I bought it for around $40 bucks from dealer (Canada), and installed easily myself, BUT MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY. Once the 3M tape touches the paint it is pretty much a done deal, and they give you procedure to ensure the edge where it wraps around the bumper is nice and snug. Otherwise, you can get a real goofy looking gap - the edge where it curves down is key so follow the directions exactly, and do several dry runs to make sure you are confident before actually sticking it down.

But don't worry, it isn't hard to do if you follow the instructions, anybody can do it!! As for preperation of the surface, you just use some alcohol and then let it dry completely.

Yes, 401-Dixie. I have not had good experiences with them. That was about 6 years ago. I am not sure about now.

$172 for the deflector is not bad. Shop around some more though.

20 minutes and the job was done.

And that 20 minutes included reading the 4 pages of instruction and waiting for the alcohol to dry on the bumper.
