I went to a salvage yard today and found two rear view mirrors for my daughters car and a $10 Oem lip for it! yay....The BIG Find was a gas tank for my car. Mine is soooooo rusty and starts coughing at 1/4 tank because of sucking up rust to the tank filter. I had priced then new..Almost $300!!

So I found a white 93 in a yard I had not been to for ages. I noticed a few tanks in the backs of cars ..just lying there..and didn't find anything special. Then I saw one....still installed!...in the white car. I took off the screws and there was a big "whoosh" of air. Mine has NEVER done this when I took of the lid. This tank had a 1/4 tank of clear looking gas and..what's this...there was an actual glimmer in the bottom instead of muck!

The outside is fine ..no dents,bumps..The plastic shield was even still in place in front of it underneath the car. Here's what it looked like inside:

It cost me....$15!

Nice find man, I need to do the same. Muck in your gas tank sucks! $15 is a hell of a price too.

This was at a place called called All Pro in Auburndale ,FL....Half price day. They even give you hot dogs and drinks on Saturdays! The tanks aren't supposed to hit the yard with gas in them so I had to wait for them to drain it after I pulled it. Guy said most people just dump it on the ground if they find one. Not dumping it might just get me better prices in the future..ya never know!

I had a useful weekend as well. I ended up finding a hood, quater glass and radiator for my s14 at a junkyard nearby. it was my first time there. i also got headlights of a 1995 J30 T and the LSD rear end and drive axles. All for 125. I just piled everything up and told the guy that I would give him a hundred for it. he said 150 and i told him i would meet him in the middle. Funny thing is he honestly had no idea he had an infinity j30 in the yard. I called up at the front office when i found the car askinghim how much for the headlights because i didnt want to walk all the way back. He told me he didnt have any inifinitys. I told him i was looking at one. He said"are you serious?" Im going to probably sell it on eBay or something. He also had a 1993 vert, Perfect condition and a fastback forget what year though.

wow! You got a good deal for the $125!. I have found over the years that just asking by phone is never enough. Cars come in and out and they forget what they have in stock. Or they don't know what it is. I was asking about whether a particular yard had a 90 Sohc KA. His records said he did and showed it to me..Wrong....It was a Dohc..so definitely not '90. For the good deals you never go to the yards with the really nice buildings either. This place just has a hut with a sign in sheet .

Cars tend to get stuck in the wrong sections too. A 240 might end up with Probes in the Ford section.

Update: I installed the tank yesterday...what a difference! I didn't realize how much I was babying the car to keep it from coughing at higher speeds. With this tank, fuel pressure is holding much better.

Hope you all find good deals too in the future and yeah..it's fun just poking around even if you don't buy anything.

Good job, and yeah, that's so true about the cars being placed in the wrong sections. Sometimes it's a honest mistake and sometimes it's because of space constrainsts but that's why walking around the yard is so fun. You never know what you will find.

That's the general rule at this junkyard too d!ck. Tanks usually come out before they go in the yard. The guy was surprised when I told him it was still in the car. I guess they miss one occasionally . I didn't really notice any others still in the cars.
