Hi,

I am new here and 08 Versa SL is also my first new car (I have it for about a week).

Maybe you have the same things and it is normal, and there is nothing to worry about, but i did not notice it being in other cars.

When there is a tiny little bump on the road, the right windshield wiper jumps (i guess), i hear rattle on the wind shield.

The other thing is it started to whistle on hight speeds, and it does not come from the inside for sure. It sounds like one of the doors are not closed properly, but the sound comes from the front of the car. I have a hood deflector, but my friends also have it on their car, and do not have such noise.

Take it back to the dealer (under warranty, of course) and have them tighten up that windshield wiper.

They should check the weather stripping around the doors, too. Some Versas have had problems with the weather stripping coming loose, particularly around the rear doors. That might be causing the "whistling."

I have the high speed (above 45 mph) whistle as well. I have an appointment on Monday at the dealership to have them take a look. I am running a hood deflector as well, but the whistle was present prior to it's installation. I just hope the service dept. does not try to explain away the whistle on the deflector. I will let you know what happens next week.

Yep, take it back to the dealer and take one of the techs on a test drive so you can point out exactly what the problems are before leaving it with them.

Thank you

I'll go to the dealership on Thursday, will see what they say. Now I know that it can be fixed (especially under warranty for a car that is one week old) and other people have similar issues.

Took the V in this morning and gave the service writer a ride and the wind noise started right on cue at 45mph. He could not locate the source of the noise, but said "we may have to reseal the windshield and remove some front body panels.." Got to love the shotgun method to auto repair!!

Anyway, I left the car with them to also address the extended crank issue, but they could not get the parts in time to repair today. They did say that the wind noise issue "has them totally baffled" and they hope to look into it further when I take the car back in once the parts are received...To be continued....

Well, I decided to try and isolate the whistle today by taping off different places on the front. I first removed the deflector and went for a drive and no noise. Next, I reinstalled the hood deflector and taped all around the windshield and still the whistle was the same. Next, I taped off the passenger side door frame and seams and still the same whistle. I then taped the front of the deflector to the bottom lip of the hood and went for a test drive. Noise gone!

I am now trying to figure out a solution to retain the hood deflector and eliminate the whistle.

Maybe some foam weather stripping adhered to the bottom of the deflector?

On high speeds I get whistles to. Its the wind knocking back on the sides of the doors. try it when windows are closed, the sound goes away. I especially noticed this with window visors. as for the rattle, I get alot of rattle too on bumps, but I dont think its the windshield wipers.

Please clarify: did you mean the visors aggravated or reduced the noise? I'm a little confused (or perhaps just a little tired from a long day). Thanks.

I had wind noise at high speeds and found out that it was a bent plastic piece at the base of my windshield. It's the little corner parts that go from the corner of the windshield down to the top corners of the hood. I popped it back into place but noticed it went back to the way it was once I opened the hood again. I guess it gets hung up on it. Anyhoo, nothing big, just something I have to keep remembering to pop back into place anytime I open the hood.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may have to give that a try.

the extended crank time is probably the fuel pump; a known issue and one that my dealer quickly handled.

the rattle you may be hearing is coming from the center of the dash at the windshield,Quick fix and i pointed this out to many versa owners,An other location for a rattle is your center console,Take some sticky rubbers and put them between the console at the front ,The console will touch the dash at the front and rub and make noises.

Update. I was able to eliminate the wind whistle by placing some 1/2" thick foam insulation weather stripping on the hood between the hood deflector. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for. The Versa and our Altima too, offered more content and performance for the price... but the fit & finish and overall quality is not oustanding. I've owned 2 Toyotas and 1 Honda and never had warrenty work on either one. The Versa is ready for it's second trip to the dealer. Amber A/C light is very dim (poor dash reassembly), need to have passenger airbag connector recall completed, and I have the "thunk" when makeing right truns comming from the front suspension. The dealer could not reporduce on my first trip 7 months ago. A little disappointing since it's otherwise a nice little car.

I'm unable ot give friends and relatives an unconditional recommendatoin of the car as I have my previous cars.
