dude you cant have file names with certain charicters in it, this has nothing to do with Vista...mmm240 wrote:I was just researching a 1/5 turn throttle for my bike. I find a website that I would like to save and it won't allow me to call the file '1/5 turn throttle'. WTF? It doesn't like the '1/5' part.I also had a hell of a time saving pictures from my micro SD card from my phone. When you plug it in you get a prompt that allows you to choose a few options, but none of them are as simple as 'save as' like XP was. I miss XP.
Uggg I would skip mac to boycot them for their adds alone. Not only because they are annoying, but because they push things that are not even true. They talk about how much more fun macs are, when almost all gaming is done on PCs... They talk about vistas problems....but they only one they can actually point at is the warnings that happen only when you install something and can be turned off with like 5 mouse clicks...You don't see Microsoft or any other PC company smearing macs and making false claims.Otto MCR wrote:get a mac!
I'm just gonna have to go and fire up my old XP puter and see if I can't download that file name. I've never had that problem with it though. 6 or so years I was rocking XPRed coupe wrote:dude you cant have file names with certain charicters in it, this has nothing to do with Vista...
/ and \ designate folders so its would tell the computer to look for the file 5 turn throttle in the folder /1/....Well that's actually internet but its the same principal....
Any windows you cannot use \ / : * ? or |
I notice that almost every one who complains about vista doesn't have it, and almost every one who does have it doesn't complain about it...
Then there are those who just read about how bad vista is so they repeat it...just because they don't know how to adjust UAV settings or fix tiny things.
I have a vista machine and an XP machine....they are pretty damn close to the same thing, but vista has more features.
I just tried, thats where I got that list of charicters that are not allowed.mmm240 wrote:

Name specific problems you have had? Have you updated to SP1?xweav32 wrote:everything about it. xp is by far better. i refuse to update.
Right you were Red coupe, I guess all that pron I downloaded never consisted of any of those characters.Red coupe wrote:I just tried, thats where I got that list of charicters that are not allowed.
Do you understand my second complaint? It used to be super easy to save something from my SD card, but with vista it's complicated. I have to take extra steps. It's an inconvenience.Red coupe wrote:I'll actually be VERY interested to hear if anything specific is mentioned in this thread...Nothing so far, even the OP is making complaints about things that you cant do on any windows machine.
If any one can name a legit problem please also list system specs and a brief description of the problem... I'm guessing we don't see this, and if we do it will be "I have a 2 ghz P4 with 512mb of ram and it is SLOW!"
Yeah sorry I didn't even see the second one....mmm240 wrote:Right you were Red coupe, I guess all that pron I downloaded never consisted of any of those characters.

What issues did he have with his 360? Couldn't this also be considered the 360's problem? I use my vista machine as a media server for PS3 and it was much easier to get going then on XP.... In fact all the network stuff in vista is much easier to use...xweav32 wrote:i dont like the renaming and rearrangement of core files ie: my documents. i had a lot of compatibility issues with my buddies vista pc and his 360.
Okay Red, you've almost completely busted me. And as an ignorant fool do appreciate. On my cpu with XP it asks me 'copy folders to cpu' (something along those lines) After I do that it brings them up and I get to choose which ones to save, very easy and I get to choose where to save them to.With my vista cpu I get 'import files' (or something to that extent). But no option to save to my cpu. Maybe I am doing it wrong? Please enlighten me.Red coupe wrote:Yeah sorry I didn't even see the second one....
Not too clear on what it is? What options are you given? How are you connecting the SD card? I take it a USB SD reader? lemme go try it on my machine...
I LOVE the way vista does auto run tasks...I hate auto run (I think I hate auto anything?) Asking me if I want to autorun, or open the folder, or run with whatever program is so much better then automatically running the autoexec file off the disk if you are not holding shift. (Probably somewhere to turn that off in xp though)
Edit: just tried... First option on vista was "import picture using windows"
So uhh....Your doing it wrong?
I can hit the copy option with vista, but that's it, just copy, it doesn't do anything. It doesn't bring up anything, no where to, no save as, nothing.Where XP is as simple as I stated earlier.Red coupe wrote:CPU is the proscessor you aren't saving anything to it, your saving to the hard drive...
I don't really get what your asking? either option copies the files from USB to your hard drive...
I dont use that feature, I just copy it myself...But I just tried it and it did choose the location automaticly (and with out telling me where...but I'd put $10 that its to "my pictures" lemme go see if its like firefox and has an option to let you choose.
No. The extent of the Xbox 360's involvement in the connection is providing a setup Key for Media Center (Or whatever the eff it's called on Vista). I hate how they don't have codec support for the 360 outside of WMV and some MPEG.Red coupe wrote:Couldn't this also be considered the 360's problem?
We've moved on from XP. Now we are dealing with vista.Red coupe wrote:That is your problem and not vistas? Are you using SP1?
Here I'll post screen shots...
You just have to click two extra buttons lol...mmm240 wrote:Yes, of course we don't save to the Central processing unit. I'm saying that saving in general is harder on vista than on XP
I'm still sitting at the photo gallery wondering how to save to my cpu? What are the extra two processes?Red coupe wrote:You just have to click two extra buttons lol...
Vista handles networking stuff better, vista has built in media center, vista allows you to preview minimized or backround windows by mousing over the start menu, vista allows you to search the start menu and run programs simply by typing in there name on the start menu vs digging through a huge *** list of folders, vista automatically detects and downloads drivers for new devices as soon as you plug them in, vista alt tab feature shows the actual program window rather then just its icon to easily choose between two windows from the same program or programs with only the standard "application" icon, vista supports DX10, vista has compatibility modes for older dos and 3.1 applications, vista has better file search features....
But you have to click two more times if you want to copy files from a USB drive.
I'd call it a draw
if you are looking at them in the folder gallery they are already on your hard drive, in my pictures.mmm240 wrote:I'm still sitting at the photo gallery wondering how to save to my cpu? What are the extra two processes?
lolmmm240 wrote:I'm still sitting at the photo gallery wondering how to save to my cpu? What are the extra two processes?
edit: sorry, not to my cpu, to my HD

lol, to be honest...I don't really care xp or vista, though vista does have some cool stuff.Beancooker wrote:At least someone other than myself likes Vista, a lot. Everything works fine for me, and is easier to use/find stuff than XP was.
