What don't you like about vista?

I was just researching a 1/5 turn throttle for my bike. I find a website that I would like to save and it won't allow me to call the file '1/5 turn throttle'. WTF? It doesn't like the '1/5' part.
I also had a hell of a time saving pictures from my micro SD card from my phone. When you plug it in you get a prompt that allows you to choose a few options, but none of them are as simple as 'save as' like XP was.
I miss XP.

dude you cant have file names with certain charicters in it, this has nothing to do with Vista...

/ and \ designate folders so its would tell the computer to look for the file 5 turn throttle in the folder /1/....Well that's actually internet but its the same principal....

Any windows you cannot use \ / : * ? or |

I notice that almost every one who complains about vista doesn't have it, and almost every one who does have it doesn't complain about it...

Then there are those who just read about how bad vista is so they repeat it...just because they don't know how to adjust UAV settings or fix tiny things.

I have a vista machine and an XP machine....they are pretty damn close to the same thing, but vista has more features.

Uggg I would skip mac to boycot them for their adds alone. Not only because they are annoying, but because they push things that are not even true. They talk about how much more fun macs are, when almost all gaming is done on PCs... They talk about vistas problems....but they only one they can actually point at is the warnings that happen only when you install something and can be turned off with like 5 mouse clicks...You don't see Microsoft or any other PC company smearing macs and making false claims.

I'm just gonna have to go and fire up my old XP puter and see if I can't download that file name. I've never had that problem with it though. 6 or so years I was rocking XP

Name specific problems you have had? Have you updated to SP1?

Or do you not use it, and complain because its popular to do that?

I'll actually be VERY interested to hear if anything specific is mentioned in this thread...Nothing so far, even the OP is making complaints about things that you cant do on any windows machine.

If any one can name a legit problem please also list system specs and a brief description of the problem... I'm guessing we don't see this, and if we do it will be "I have a 2 ghz P4 with 512mb of ram and it is SLOW!"

Do you understand my second complaint? It used to be super easy to save something from my SD card, but with vista it's complicated. I have to take extra steps. It's an inconvenience.

Yeah sorry I didn't even see the second one....

Not too clear on what it is? What options are you given? How are you connecting the SD card? I take it a USB SD reader? lemme go try it on my machine...

I LOVE the way vista does auto run tasks...I hate auto run (I think I hate auto anything?) Asking me if I want to autorun, or open the folder, or run with whatever program is so much better then automatically running the autoexec file off the disk if you are not holding shift. (Probably somewhere to turn that off in xp though)

Edit: just tried... First option on vista was "import picture using windows"

So uhh....Your doing it wrong?

What issues did he have with his 360? Couldn't this also be considered the 360's problem? I use my vista machine as a media server for PS3 and it was much easier to get going then on XP.... In fact all the network stuff in vista is much easier to use...

The document folders are arranged a little different...but thats just being used to one or the other. If it is that bad you don't need to use it Create a folder in C:/ called "documents" and set it up as XP...that's personal preference not one being better... And those two (more like one) are hardly EVERYTHING?

Okay Red, you've almost completely busted me. And as an ignorant fool do appreciate. On my cpu with XP it asks me 'copy folders to cpu' (something along those lines) After I do that it brings them up and I get to choose which ones to save, very easy and I get to choose where to save them to.
With my vista cpu I get 'import files' (or something to that extent). But no option to save to my cpu. Maybe I am doing it wrong? Please enlighten me.

CPU is the proscessor you aren't saving anything to it, your saving to the hard drive...

I don't really get what your asking? either option copies the files from USB to your hard drive...

I dont use that feature, I just copy it myself...But I just tried it and it did choose the location automaticly (and with out telling me where...but I'd put $10 that its to "my pictures" lemme go see if its like firefox and has an option to let you choose.

OK click "import using windows"
Then a small window open with "Tag These pictures (optional)"

Look in the lower left, there is a link that says "Options" click that and a window comes up with a bunch of stuff, one of them is "Import to:" with a drop down box...click and choose a folder, if the one you want is not listed click "Browse..."

I love vista... I don't really have any complaints.. never crashed, never had a problem with drivers, games or anything... way better than XP in my opinion. I still use xp on my other computers though. I'm only running vista on this one because it's leet.

I can hit the copy option with vista, but that's it, just copy, it doesn't do anything. It doesn't bring up anything, no where to, no save as, nothing.
Where XP is as simple as I stated earlier.

No. The extent of the Xbox 360's involvement in the connection is providing a setup Key for Media Center (Or whatever the eff it's called on Vista). I hate how they don't have codec support for the 360 outside of WMV and some MPEG.

I have no trouble with Vista. I challenge people that complain about Vista to rollback to SP1 on XP and see what suck really is.

Well CPU means central processing unit...You don't copy things to that and what you said didn't really make sense...thats all I meant.

OK I fail at paint screen shots, the bottoms of most those got cut, the 3rd one should have "options" in the lower left....But you get the point.

You just have to click two extra buttons lol...

Vista handles networking stuff better, vista has built in media center, vista allows you to preview minimized or backround windows by mousing over the start menu, vista allows you to search the start menu and run programs simply by typing in there name on the start menu vs digging through a huge *** list of folders, vista automatically detects and downloads drivers for new devices as soon as you plug them in, vista alt tab feature shows the actual program window rather then just its icon to easily choose between two windows from the same program or programs with only the standard "application" icon, vista supports DX10, vista has compatibility modes for older dos and 3.1 applications, vista has better file search features....

But you have to click two more times if you want to copy files from a USB drive.

I'd call it a draw

if you are looking at them in the folder gallery they are already on your hard drive, in my pictures.

To choose a different folder
at this screen

click options

Then click browse on this screen

There was pages of results on how to do this on google by searching
"vista import pictures choose location"

lol :D I almost pointed that out again....I don't mean to nit pick... I just see CPU and automatically think of the cpu, so it sounds real wierd to me.

It is kinda funny though that choosing the folder aside, copying files off a usb drive is so easy you didn't even realize you had done it already.

lol, to be honest...I don't really care xp or vista, though vista does have some cool stuff.

I just am completely ****ing tired of people putting down vista because its the thing to do.

Not to pick on you mmm240 but this thread is case in point. EVERY time I see one of these vista hate threads people either post problems that occur because they don't know know how to do it and haven't bothered with google, or simple post "everything is terrible, I won't even try it"

I have had almost NO problems (imo every computer is gonna have an error some times, but my cell phone has crashed more then vista...) and every time I have pressed vista haters for reasons they have been user error, something from the first release before any company had released vista drivers, or just completely made up.

It is a little more demanding, true....but the newer computers that come with it will run it perfectly fine. Before I had it I was worried about buying a laptop with it, and about how it would run on what ever basic laptop I would be getting. It runs fine. Hell 3.1 requires almost NO resources... But we still upgraded to win 95.
Perhaps I just remember my dad babbling about sticking with 3.1 back in the day, and how much it sounds like peoples hatred of vista.

It did have some problems in the beginning, but don't most OS's? Most of that was due to the fact that manufacturers hadn't really started releasing vista drivers yet.

Now a days EVERYTHING comes with vista drivers...I have literally not had a single program not run on vista. One game had problems until I turned off UAC, and Solid Works 2007 didn't work, but that is because they have an xp version and a vista version...and I was trying to install the xp version (didn't want to re-download), and even then its not that it wouldn't work...the installer was purposely programed to not allow it.

The cube and other effects is done in ubuntu. Ubuntu is awesome as well. Been an ubuntu user for a few years now. Ever since I found out about the vista bootloader. I decided to put osx on, which is downright awesome.

The price
The fact that my computer is too crappy to run it well

Hmm, I saw mika tan this morning. Good stuff. Ive got a main link I use. Um. Yeah tips for multiboot.

Ubuntu is pretty straightforward. The newest one is fairly good. Be sure to check out http://www.ubuntuforums.org. Register there, or just lurk around. Also to get all the cool effects, you will want to get the compiz manager. Hit me up on aim. Beatn1k. or yahoo, shpanksh. Im usually invisible, but let me know who you are.

Im just studying right now. Also Im a big fan of the vista bootloader. EasyBCD makes it easy to set up your loader real nice so you can choose between ubuntu and vista. It is definitely better to run with ubuntu and maybe later osx.

I learned alot of ubuntu through the ubuntuforums. Check out peoples desktop screenshots. Let me know, and good luck. Feel free to ask anytime

Vista is the retarded brother of the mac OS. People that have PC's are running XP. They refuse to get a new computer and just upgrade what they have, it's cheaper and you won't have the problems that vista comes with.

You sound like the retarded bother of an XP fanboy...Again, can you list specific problems that you personally have had? Or are you just repeating what you have read? So far there hasn't been a single legitimate complaint in this thread...

I got linux running fine, other then having low resolution and no drivers for my printer and not recognizing my sound card

Its not bad, but I cant see wanting to use it instead of windows. I don't have any problems with windows, and the small ones I come across I can fix reasonably easy. I haven't had problems with viruses and what not since I was a kid and click on what ever free porn link I could find... Linux does offer a ton of customization, but wall paper is enough for me and I don't really even like bothering with themes... I'm gonna play with it more but I have a feeling it will just get ignored in favor of windows.

I would have no problems switching to vista as my sole OS though...

Congrats on getting linux running fine. Try searching those ubuntuforums to see if there are any specific fixes you can do for your sound card.

I have no complaints about vista, in fact, Im no longer a fan of XP. If I had to include it in order of preference, it would be Vista, Leopard, Ubuntu, XP. With Vista only barely edging out Leopard.

Because Im so used to using vista I like it alot. But the leopard, moving around, doing things/ installing things, is literally "so easy a caveman could do it"

Ubuntu is nice, because, once you mess with it, "it just works"

XP, im no longer a fan of, cause things always get broken. And always need fixing

Vista, just works, everything works. Ive got the 64bit, no problems whatsoever. So much easier to use than XP ever was. And if something goes wrong, after a quick google, problem is solved and will never be a problem...ever

I got the resolution fixed just now, that was a big complaints and a fairly easy fix...though I am not a big fan of the random "type this in" fixed....Its like, what the hell did I just do?

I found one for sound, will try it out tonight...and searched a bit about printer and most fixes wont let me use it as a scanner

Nothing to do with OSs at all but my network connection just went from being under 1000kb/s to this

I dunno if its just that no one is using it, but they were supposed to have fixed something that was causing traffic on the school network (I am on the school network too) so I am just praying this is how it is from now on...

I've only had one problem with Vista. It would just use up hard drive space after i booted it up. At one point it took up 5 GB in an hour just sitting there so i just formatted and went back to XP. Now im runnin Ubuntu after getting tired of not being able to customize XP and i have to say Compiz is one of the most awsome things ive seen in a while. Gotta love the water effect
