ok so ive got the vg30de in my J30...same as an NA Z32....i upgraded to the stock TT 370cc injectors and had my ecu upgraded by Jim Wolf....now im experiencing surging around 40mph and 80 mph if im not WOT...should I have done the TT fuel pump as well??? i know the fuel pressure regulator in all 3 models is exactly the same so im just wondering out of curiousity....anyone have any thoughts???my goal is to get as much as i can out of the NA motor w/o doing the twin turbo swap into my J...i figure with everything ive done(cams, injectors, pulleys, ecu, popcharger)and port and polish the heads and intakes(upper and lower)i should be sitting somewhere around the 400hp range...if not ill still be happy with where shell sit i just need to take care of this surging issue...what are your thoughts oh wise Z32 gurus?

lastly what can be done to improve the automatic transmission in the NA w/o having to do an actual manual swap?

you're probably at the 300hp mark and will not require a new pump until 400hp. You would have to be running higher compression pistons and some giggle gas to get to 400.

There are some mods you can do to the auto transmission that retain pressure and result in quicker shifts but I don't think anything short of swapping a TT auto transmission will get you more durability.

you won't get 400 hp from an n/a without a complete ballanced and blueprinted engine build, you'll be lucky to get 300 hp, and to be clear we are talking crank hp here, expect to max out around 240 whp, I know a guy that did all the stuff you plan and even did a mild rebuild and still only got about 220 whp

The ecu [even with mods] probably cannot compensate for 12% higher flow [at same millisecs open time] at cruise as it may exceed the dynamic range of adaptive control.

JWT ecu mods only work on WOT, they do not adjust cruise or idle parameters.

Fresh O2 might improve things a little.

the more i cruise it seems like its running lean...and the ECU shows no codes...i have no idea what to do....what do you mean by fresh O2???like new O2 sensors???i just spent $250 on a TT fuel pump...im hoping that does the trick because if not im pretty much screwed...

I think it may be more of a fuel tuning issue. The fuel pump shouldn't be maxed out nor would even the NA injectors. You'll need to get the car on a dyno to be for sure but I don't think you'll be making much more than 250-260 bhp or so. They can also hook it up to the wideband and tell you exactly what your fuel/air ratio is.

Put your NA injectors back in. There is no point at all using TT injectors. All you are doing is running RICH. The TT pump won't help at all. You need NA injectors or a proper tune, not a JWT chip.

Why do you think it's running lean? Got a wideband in there to check?

unfortunately i do not...its running lean because when i cruise up to 40 mph anywhere under 4000rpms...when it hits 40 it feels like it just wants to die on me....then if i floor it she surges a few times and then finally hits around 5000rpms and cruises up to 50...same thing @ 80mph....now if im WOT i can pass 40mph no problem....its definately weird...its acting like its not getting enough fuel

I'd be getting a fuel pressure gauge put in. Then i would be getting a new chip burnt with a higher K value to suit those oversized injectors. I still reckon it's running rich. Get someone to drive behind you, see if your blowing clouds of black smoke.

no smoke at all...and Jim WOlf Upgraded my ECU to run those injectors....

put it on a dyno and have them watch the wideband and timing, you'll find the problem.

I'd start looking at the o2 sensors and then the PTU and then the throttle position sensor.

Why didn't you say...

As per tg, chuck her on the dyno and check the usual electrical doovers.
