It's actually more beneficial for you to just not run the light. Wanna know why?
There are a few cities across the country that are taking out cameras due to lost revenues. I think the article was posted on the forum a while back, but here it is again:

Basically, the red light cameras are in place for revenue, not public safety. After reading a few articles in search of the one above, I found that Lockheed Martin (who leases many of these camera systems) forbids the cities engineers from making modifications to the intersections that would reduce violations and increase compliance.
Lockheed Martin only gets paid if the cameras are effective and will push for the cameras to be taken down if they aren't producing revenue.
So if we all stop running red lights, and push for longer duration yellow lights, we can get rid of the cameras, reduce accidents, and stop getting outrageous tickets (upwards of $400 here in CA).
