Ok I just installed spark plugs (ngk irodium)...When I started the car the car started to smoke pretty bad from the tail pipe. First it was white smoke and then when I punched the gas a little black smoke came out......I let the car run for 5 min and it stoped....Has any of you guys used those plugs and had this problem or should I just take those plugs out and put something else....My old plugs were pretty bad looking so maybe I just need to run the car for a while for the computer to start reading it correctly...What you guys think...Thanks in advance

The new Gs come with iridium plugs. I know that there are some considerations with gapping them, but nothing in running them. I wonder if you got something in the cylinders when you had the plugs out?

i would venture to say that everything should be fine and that it just needs to readjust a little for the new fuel/air mixtures. After a few days it shouldn't be there. If it is, report back.

On a recent thread several people were saying they had plugs that were melted, etc at 60k so it wouldn't hurt to pull them and have a look - check the gap and replace em if they look bad (provided you know what to look for) or if you are not sure you can just replace em as a preventative measure being that it's not all that expensive to do so.

If this will make you fell better changing your plugs, I will be replacing my spark plugs before 30K. And, I will be replacing my JWT Cold Air intake annually or every 6 months. I don't think i have the patience and time to clean and oil that stuff.

Just go buy an AEM dry-flow and save the landfill from more waste.

No oil and just a little bath.

Thanks a lot guys...I havent even read your answers yet but I found the problem....When I changed the plugz I also installed Greddy Catchcan... and the hoses the can came with were kinked so after the engine was on it started sucking and blocked the hoses....I just went to pepboys and picked up some 1" hose with a metal spring inside and everything is FINE....Thanks guys once again and thanks for trying to help ur fellow G owner...LOL

I agree! But I like the fact that the oil in the JWT stops more dirt, while allowing better air flow, than the dry air flow systems. I maybe wrong but I think I am close.

Actually, do a little research. You may be very surprised.

After having used K&N products, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with their company.

The only thing I've bought from them and been completely happy with was a stainless steel tip for my I30's exhaust.

They're oil filter have lower single pass efficiency than Fram and my oil seemed to be dirtier sooner. To top it off, they charge 2x-3x as much for their oil filter as Fram and a little more than Mobile 1.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, I've just used 2 K&N style filters and 2 Dry-flow and the dry-flows don't have to be cleaned as often (they can be brushed or tapped lightly to dislodged most of the dust whereas the K&N oil just glues the dust to the filter element).

I'm at 54K. I pulled one and it looked OK, but wasout of gap (by a little) , so I replaced them all. I think I could have gone to 75K no problem. They all looked OK.Got some slightly used plugs I'll sell you real cheap!

I think before 50K, you're waisting your money.

I agree with you. The oil filter wil get dirtier sooner from both direct and indirect particulate material that is flowing around the air filter. I also agree that the non-oil air filters are easier to manage.

I guess I am just a little biased with the non-oil air filters because I once used for my little Nissan and , the little devil pulled like hell--made me happy that day. When it came time to clean the filter, it was another story--I did a terrible job of cleaning and oiling the filter--ended up throwing it away, and went back to paper filters that were cheap. So, my comments are just based on bias towards oil based air filters---nothing technical.

I am terrible mechanic in that I know exactly what to do and how to do it. However, when it comes time for me to do work on my car, I end up loosing some screws or breaking something, or stripping threads, or bending some metal, irreparably. My over-exuberance is a terrible characteristics I have when it comes to fixing stuff on my car. So, I put it to use in driving, where I fare better. The same over exuberance will hurt me if i were to become a real race car driver. So, I know my limits. My over exuberance is only good and handy when it comes to testing stuff, where stuff can or is allowed to break catastrophically. Explains why i receive 1 traffic citation every 1 - 1.5 years, and good reason why I was rather thrilled by the performance of my car when I lost a front drivers tire last month.
