Kragen auto parts mail in rebates, anyone have any problems getting them?
2:10 PM 5/10/2008
Kragen auto parts always has rebates on various stuff like engine oil and chemicals and antifreeze, etc. If they really pay off on them they are the cheapest place to buy oil, like for instance right now you can get Valvoline Synpower synthetic engine oil for 99 cents a quart using a rebate' or Shell for 49 cents a quart, and last month they had 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter for $19.99. But I'm wondering if they actually pay off on them or throw the submittals in the garbage like some companies or purposely don't pay unless you follow up on your submittals. Wonder if anyone ever had any problems with them? What about Pep boys rebates?

I got my $18 rebate from Kragen last week for $1.50 X 12 quarts of Castrol GTX motor oil. I normally buy gallons at Wal Mart but the rebate made buying quarts a good deal.
Personally, I enjoy getting the rebates in the mail and most of the big box stores (i.e. Best Buy) have made it pretty easy by printing a cash register reciept to use as a rebate coupon. All the checks go into my mad money credit union account at work to spend without scrutiny from the Mrs..

I have been having a problem with an $83 rebate from December. First they said they never received it, so I used their http://cskautoincrs.rebatestatus.com website and "re-submitted" the rebate. A few days past and I saw no response, so I called. They were having computer problems. So I called back the next day. They were still having problems. Still nothing. So I called back and got this really smart mouthed girl on the phone, Sonia. She let me know in no uncertain terms how I did EVERYTHING wrong and it would be too much work to look at each of my rebates. Finally she gave me a fax number and I faxed all the paperwork to them. On 3/20/2008 I got an email from Wendy M 9809 stating ... Your rebate for submission number S5803962 is currently being reviewed for accuracy which is the December rebate.
Now that its May and 8 weeks are here, I look at the website again. Now it says I have to contact them. My email is apparently ignored, so I call. This time I am told that I did not include the UPC seals from the cases of oil and therefore my rebate submission is invalid. I keep copies of all my rebate materials just in case I have to deal with crooks like this. So I read off the rebate form that UPC's are not required for oil purchases. There was a moment of silence and then the guy wanted to over the entire rebate again, the transaction number and the whole nine yards. Now when I look at their website, I am notified that my rebate is currently being reviewed for accuracy.
So I sit down and write out a very long letter to the president and CEO of CSK Auto inc with all the details. I also include photocopies of all the documents. That was mailed out last week.
Still not satisfied, I notice that there is a BBB emblem on their website. So I file a complaint with them as well.
Still not satisfied, I file a complaint with the FTC.
I am thinking that Kragen and their rebate company Continental Promotion Group, Inc. are actually committing this fraud on a large interstate scale.
That said, my $30 February rebate arrived in the mail as a $12 check. So now I get to fight with Kragen and Continental Promotion Group, Inc. about that one too.

Perfect example of why I ignore sales involving rebates. If all consumers ignored them, we would start getting our discounts at the register and the stores themselves could get the rebates from the manufacturers- the customer should not be forced to jump through hoops.... if you want my business as a customer, earn it by making the transaction easy, pleasant, and hassle {rebate}free.

I submitted three rebate claims so far in the last month or so. The first two from April finally showed up on their rebate website with a note that they were received and a check would be sent around June 27. The third claim I submitted for some Valvoline synthetic oil hasn't shown up yet. And I did see that fine print at the bottom of the claim form that individual bottles of oil didn't have to have the UPC code (How could you get them anyway without cutting the bottles up). Twice before I submitted rebate claims, once for some Chevron oil that I did finally get paid for, and once for some flashlight batteries that I never got paid for. They have some other good deals right now but i am not going to buy them until I get paid for all three submittials I have in now.

Please keep this around for awhile for anyone needing to deal with a rebate problem.
I got called today by Lee Hall at CSK's rebates 480-606-9317. He absolutely apologized for any problems that I had with my rebate from 5 months ago. He promised to cut me a check TODAY and it would be in the mail TODAY. He creeped me out a bit when he said my problem was isolated. I dealt with 4 people on the phone at CSK before him, and months transpired. Do you remember the 3 great lies? "Hello, I am from the IRS and am here to help you". My complaints with the BBB and the FTC are still in effect. Until I get my money, I do not believe CSK or anybody. I am still owed $18.00 from my most recent rebate. Let me get this straight in case the supreme court has to see this. I submitted EVERYTHING for a $30 rebate and yet I get a check for $12. Hello? I am not stupid. I know that rebaters are nothing but thieves.
This guy was called on the carpet because of his help. Ah-hmmm. His "trained" help. This is not random. Person after person in their crappy jobs decided to F-me-over?? This is what stupid people think. Smart people know that smart people (or those with a lot of time on their hands), will unravel their plans.
I threatened the president and CEO of Kragens to drag a random employee into court and beat them to death in small claims court. I sent him all my evidence (my copies of receipts and the form). Along with the associated costs to file a complaint. I promised to beat them to death and then have a sheriff take my money from their cash register.
Complain to this guy:
Lawrence N. Mondry President and Chief Executive Officer CSK Auto Corporation 645 E. Missouri Avenue Suite 400 Phoenix, AZ 85012
Feel free to complain. I actually encourage it. I was just a few keystrokes from complaining to the FBI for interstate mail fraud.

Okay okay. I grew up the third child in a family of 6. My older brother used to beat the crap out of me because it was ______ (fill in the blank). I am not that kid anymore. I put in a lot of time improving myself and my slice of life.
I learned this great lesson in the service industry, "friends come and go, but enemies are for life." Do not ever create an enemy. Enemies hone their grudges and live to complicate your life. If you can think of it, an enemy can do it. Break your windows? Ice pick your tires? Kill your pets? Sue you in court? Yes they will. Always treat people with respect, even if you despise them and think they are stupider than you.
If you complain enough to the right people, they will listen. Keep copies of all your receipts in dealing with a rebate.
Did Kragen want to go to court against me? I sent the president and CEO all my paperwork. I had records of everything. I could just see the judge *****-slapping them for waisting his time. I was about to mail my records to every TV station and newspaper in Tempe AZ. I had the FBI's page up as well. I even considered making fun of Kragen's rebates on FishGoneBad.com.
